About Bilbo Aka Billy
NAME: Bilbo, aka Billy
BEFORE SAFE ESPERANCE: Came to us as an owner surrender.
BREED: Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (Blenheim colour)
General breed traits: bred as a companion/lap dog the Cavalier loves his people and doesn't do well alone. He is also very friendly towards kids, other dogs and strangers if well socialised. Definitely a housedog - not an outside dog. Being a Spaniel he may chase birds, rabbits and small prey. They are intelligent dogs and should be easy to train, especially with their love of food - obesity must be watched. A medium energy level means a good walk a day and some mental stimulation to keep them happy.
ASSETS: Shy, affectionate, eager to please, sensitive, quiet and extremely sweet! He has a loving, gorgeous nature once he gets to know you and is extremely loyal.
FAVOURITE THINGS: Billy loves to get in the car and enjoys his gentle daily walks.
OTHER ANIMALS: He gets on well with other dogs generally and would be suited to a home with another female dog friend to share with. He has lived as an only dog and as long as he has a constant human companion he is happy. He is fine with dog-friendly cats that can stand their ground after gentle introduction.
GENERAL INFO: Billy is an absolute sweetheart. He is still learning to walk well on his lead as he can get a bit excited at times and tries to pull. He is a little timid around new people that he doesn't know so will need a gentle owner who will help him gain his confidence in this area. He is good around calm children but doesn't like it when they get in his face and will growl as a warning. We would therefore recommend an adult only home where visits by children can be well monitored. He knows a few commands and is very eager to please. He loves to rest his head against the side of your leg when he's near to his human.
HEALTH: When Billy came into care he required dental work and desexing - his mouth is now much improved and he has recovered very well from surgery. Billy also has a heart murmur that requires daily medication. His general wellbeing, comfort and zest for life have improved greatly with the support of this medication - this will need to continue for his lifetime.
HOME ESSENTIALS:
*Stability: A home where someone is home for most of the day on a permanent basis (not just through Covid 19) or can take him with them when they go out.
*Time: Billy needs an owner who will put in the time to expose him to new experiences and to train and socialise him with new people (he can be a little timid when meeting new humans and in new situations) as well as dogs. He will need gentle walks each day.
*Space: Billy needs a well fenced, secure yard, with some grass and interesting things for him to sniff.
*Love: Billy needs to be allowed to be inside or out as he chooses, to sleep inside and to be included as part of the family.
If Billy sounds like the perfect boy for you, please send an enquiry and we'll be in touch soon.
