About Billy
Foster to Adopt Opportunity
Hi, my name is Billy and I'm a Staffordshire Bull Terrier X. I’m around 12-18 months old and my foster mum says I'm a real sweetheart!
I need to be foster to adopt, because when I came into the Found Hearts family, they found out I was heartworm positive – I’m not really sure what that means, but if you chose to read on, all will be explained below.
So, let me tell you about myself - I'm fully house trained and well behaved, so no digging or chewing, so that's a big bonus. I’m extremely loyal and loving and very gentle with little people too, coz I know I have to be careful around them and protect them from harm. I would love some kids to play with in my new family.
Although I love other dogs, I think I would prefer a home where I am the only dog, simply because I love being the centre of your universe. I am a people pleaser, and I am most happy when I’m by your side, doing stuff together like walks, swimming (my favourite thing in the world), playing ball or just sleeping by your feet.
I have not been tested with cats, so we may need to have careful introductions, but I can’t guarantee I won’t chase them!
So, a little bit about the heartworm. I started treatment in October 20, using a slow kill method under strict supervision of the Found Heart Vets. The treatment includes a yearly heartworm injection, plus a monthly heartworm tablet. I wear a tick and flea collar and am wormed in the usual way once every 3 months. At the 12 month mark I will need another heartworm injection to last the next 12 months, a heartworm test and depending on whether those pesky blighters are still there, I may need to continue my monthly heartworm tablets. Simple!!
In about 4-6 months, I may be able to get my family jewels removed, but that will be at the Vet’s discretion if I am fit enough to undergo anaesthetic. But once they are removed, the adoption can be finalised and I become yours forever!
After adoption, Found Hearts will continue to provide treatment for the heartworm until such time that I am Heartworm negative, which may be 12-18 months from the start of my treatment. This means the monthly heartworm tablets, the heartworm tests and another yearly heartworm injection. All other costs will be the responsibility of my new family.
It is extremely important that my new carers/adopters are willing to continue with my treatment until I’m given the all clear from the vet and that I continue to visit the vet in Redbank Plains who have been treating me.
If you would like to foster me with the intent of adopting me, please fill out the form below.
kind regards
Billy
