Please meet Bailey, a three year old black Persian looking for a safe and loving home where he's the only cat in residence.

Why does he need to be an only cat? Well, here's the back story.

When poor Bailey was surrendered to us, his coat was so tangled and matted that our only option was to shave it off.

For a long-haired cat, in particular, being hairless is a stressful experience. Aside from the thermal insulation that protects a cat from both hot and cold temperatures, they use their fur to communicate - and if you've ever seen a cat bristle, you'll know what we mean. They do this to make themselves look bigger than they really are and scare off potential threats. Also, a cat's coat helps it understand its surroundings, sense danger, and it even affects its activity level.

So, until Bailey's coat has regrown to its luxuriant best in another three to five months, he will need an understanding home, free of other cats because, put simply, they intimidate him.

When it comes to people, however, Bailey shines. Although he took a little while to come out of his shell, he is now very affectionate towards his foster mum. He loves rubbing his head into her hand, cuddling her on the couch and snuggling up with her in bed at night.

With encouragement, Bailey also has a playful side, an aspect of his personality that will surely come to the fore as his fur grows back and his self-confidence is restored.

Bailey is desexed, vaccinated and microchipped and his adoption fee is $395.
