About Fallow ~ 14mo Foxhound (On Trial 22/12/20)
Fallow is a 14 month old female Foxhound, one of the most gentle (and sometimes goofy) hounds you will ever meet!
This gorgeous girl has a very calm nature, loves attention and wants to be part of the family. She is most happy being around people, relishing in pats or lounging around the house with you. While she is independent and can occupy herself around the house for part of the day, as a hound Fallow has times where she will be lively and is looking for stimulation. Eager for a sniff and a walk, Fallow will make you proud at the dog park!
Fallow socialises well with other dogs. Her daily trips to the dog park see her engaging well with any dog (and their human). She loves to (goofily at times) run around to get the daily zoomie fix. Not much interested in toys, she prefers to either sniff or socialise.
The ideal home for Fallow will be an active family (having multiple people around will be good to keep her stimulated). As she gets along so well with other dogs, households who have dogs would also be a great fit.
Foxhounds are an active breed, so daily walks are a must! At least half an hour of activity daily, with at least 4 days of longer walks (1-2 hours). Running around with other dogs at the dog park is a great way to make this happen.
Fallow doesn’t try to escape (no jumping or digging), but we will still require a secure yard. She also needs to be allowed inside for most of the day - she came to Dog Rescue Newcastle as she was left outside all her life, and we want to be sure that situation improves! Ideally she will be allowed to sleep inside.
If left outside or alone for too long, Fallow may bark due to boredom. The only health concern identified is one common to all Foxhounds (and any breed with large ears), she needs to have her ears inspected regularly (weekly) and cleaned with baby wipes. If required, an ear-cleaning solution must be used. These are simple and quick to do in order to prevent ear infection.
Fallow is clever, can sit and is house trained. Her carer has begun training to expand her commands. As she is still quite young, now is an opportune time to work on training - her ideal family will focus on this in the first few weeks after she has settled in. This will require patience and persistence, as Foxhounds are known to be tricky to train (that keen sense of smell also often distracts!). This training will reap huge rewards, as she is already an amazing dog, with strong commands Fallow will be the perfect companion.
