Jack ~ 7 week old kitten (On Trial 12/12/20)

PLEASE NOTE: Jack is only available to a home in the Newcastle/Hunter/Central Coast area only as he will have to be desexed at one of our local vets by the time he is 4 months old.

A few weeks ago, DRN received a beer carton, with holes punched into it. As much as we would have loved to be a donated case of pale ale to celebrate the end of another long week of rescuing animals - Inside there were 3 tiny kittens, of only 3 weeks old.

Three little boys that we - of course - named after beers. Jack (Iron Jack), James (James Boag’s) and Cooper (Coopers Pale Ale). The kittens were skinny, tiny, covered in fleas, full of worms and absolutely terrified. With no mother to teach them the ways of the world. But in their short time on this earth, they had already developed a fighting spirit and massive personalities.

Jack is the smallest, but most independent of the 3 kittens. He is a tabby boy with super soft fur and big “puppy dog” eyes. His two brothers are also available for adoption as a pair.

All three kittens have been hand-raised since 3 weeks of age. Being bottle-fed, toileted and having the goo wiped from their eyes, by their foster carer has transformed them from helpless, homeless kittens, into pampered house pets.

They are fully housetrained, using litter without issues. They’ve never bitten, even in play - but they are a little clingy with their claws.

Jack is a special little boy. He is small but mighty. He’s an absolute purr machine who lives for chin scratches. He likes to sit on his foster carers shoulder so he can experience the world from high up. He starts purring even before he has been touched.

Jack would be very lonely and unhappy if he was left alone for long periods of time throughout the day. While he is very good at entertaining himself by exploring and inspecting the world around him, he grew up without a mum and relied on people and his brothers to teach him the ways of the world.

He would benefit greatly from a home where someone is home most of the time (not necessarily the same person), or, ideally, a home with one or more confident and friendly cats.

Jack is a very small kitten and is bound to grow up to be a small cat. He’s been putting weight on consistently, but still has very tiny frame. He will need to be fed nutritious, high-quality kitten food, for several meals a day, to help him continue to grow.

He would not be suited to a home with clumsy young children, or a large boisterous dogs. Applications with existing pets will need to be committed to supervising all interactions until Jack grows bigger.

In their foster home, Jack and his brothers have mostly been kept separate from interacting with the other, larger animals, for their own safety. However, they have had controlled exposure to a female cat, and two, cat-friendly, male dogs.

While he is young, he will need a space (a room, a pen, or cat tower) where he can relax without the fear of being accidentally stepped on!

Jack is available to a strictly indoor home in the Newcastle/Port Stephens/Hunter/Central Coast Area. He will need to return to a DRN before he is four months old to be desexed (a procedure that is covered by their adoption fee).

Jack’s adoption fee is $280. This covers his flea and worming treatment, microchipping and first kitten vaccination prior to adoption, as well his desexing procedure in the future.
