About Sheba
SWEET SHEBA - Bull Terrier Mix - Loving, Playful and adores other dogs and her people.
AGE: 2 Years
OTHER DOGS: Friendly but 95% of Dogs she is too much for.
CHILDREN: Yes
CATS: No
ACTIVITY LEVEL: High
TRAINING LEVEL: Further Training Needed
VET WORK: Fully Vaccinated, Microchipped & Desexed
Sheba loves being around her owner and is so so loving. Sheba someone to cuddle on the couch with but also to be a hiking buddy. She is a very intelligent dog who picks up training well and loves to learn new things. She loves walks and could go on ten a day if you wanted to take her, but after she has had some exercise she is more than happy to laze around the house the rest of the day. Sheba annoys other dogs as she has a face nipping habit. At this stage we are taking NO MORE APPLICANTS WITH A CURRENT DOG. She needs a home with no other dogs. She has had too many failed adopters because of this habit.
Sheba is mostly very docile and likes to lounge around the house when we’re home. At dinner time she always wants to be apart of everything and will sometimes try to get on a seat so she can sit at the table with everyone. However after the initial excitement of everyone sitting down for dinner she will just lie on the ground quietly.
If she hasn’t been walked enough during the day she can get a bit excited and jumpy in the house, so it is important ahe goes to an active home. If her needs are met she is very calm and quiet.
Training: When we got Sheba she had no training at all. In the short time we have had her however she has proven to be a fast learner. She is mostly toilet trained but will need some reinforcement in her new home. She comes when called at the park when she is off leash but again this training will need to be reinforced when there are other dogs playing with her. She knows the sit command and I’m confident she could pick up many more commands with continued training.
Activity Level: Sheba is still a young dog and therefore has a lot of energy to burn. She needs at least 1-2 hours walking a day, but could walk all day if necessary. However after exercising she is very docile around the house and naps for most of the day.
Other dogs: Sheba loves to play with other dogs. But 90% or more of other dogs find her irritating and attack her as they find her face nipping habit annoying.
Cats: Untested but wouldn’t recommend a home with a cat already there
Children: Also untested, however loves people so children should be fine as long as they are not super young. She jumps on her special humans when excited but is pretty good around new people.
On leash: Sheba had never been on a leash before we got her, so her movements are a bit sporadic sometimes and she zig zags a little bit. The more walks we have been on the better she is getting at walking in a straight line though. She mostly never pulls unless she sees another dog and wants to play, and when she does pull it’s not too hard. Again, with further training and a well fitted harness/setup for her walks she will be just lovely.
Initially you will need to be very patient with Sheba, she is still learning to be a dog in many ways, so patience is key.
Sheba tends to dig when left home alone all day. This plus her need for a regular one on one human to teach her to be the best dog she can be means Sheba cannot go to a full time worker at this stage. Being alone 5 days a week for long hours will not suit where she is at currently in her life.
PLEASE READ THE SPECIFIC NEEDS & REQUIREMENTS BEFORE APPLYING. It is important dog suits family and family suits dog. Ask yourself, would you answer yes or no to the below;
Specific Needs and requirements:
- An owner who is willing to put in some time with her initially to get her fully trained
- NO OTHER DOGS
- Active home
- Someone with time to spend with her to make up for her lost years in terms of teaching her what it is to be a dog (NOT FULL TIME WORKERS)
