About Onyx
OnyxThis absolutely gorgeous girl is now seeking her forever home Onyx is a blend of Labrador / Staffy/ Mastiff mixcurrently 30 kilos Onyx is a very well behaved and friendly girl since she’s been in foster care and absolutely loves being around people. During her stay with us she’s been spending her days mixed between outside in the backyard either laying under the sun or talking with the dog on the other side of the fence, and inside snoozing in her bed with her favourite toy. Onyx is toilet trained, no accidents inside whilst in foster care, and is generally well behaved when guests come over. She will initially get quite excited when meeting new people and playfully jump up, but she’ll calm down after a couple of minutes and is content as long as guests are giving her plenty of pats and attention.Onyx is quite muscular so is very strong on the lead and a firm grip is a must. She’ll pull for the first 10 minutes or so and then calm down after that. She also knows some commands such as Sit and Shake Hands. On a nighttime she loves curling up on the couch to watch TV with her foster parents. When it comes time for bed, she can be almost like a brick when trying to have her move into bed at night. It can take some encouragement using either a small treat or her favourite toy to get her to move from her comfy position on the couch to bed.
FOODOnyx is a very fussy eater. We’ve been feeding her twice a day, once in the morning and once at night, though she doesn’t seem to want to eat a lot in the mornings. She is not fond of dry food and will give it a sniff before turning her nose away, so it does require some mixing with wet food and even then she’s very good at picking out the wet food and leaving the dry good in the bowl. She absolutely loves eating chicken. In the mornings and evening she’s been having one cup of dry food mixed with wet food including chicken shreds/pieces to encourage her to eat the dry food!Onyx has been eating some treats, however with any dog biscuits she’s keener on burying them in the backyard than actually eating them and have caught her burying dog biscuits in a few areas in the backyard.
TOILETINGOnyx is toilet trained and has had no accidents in the house. When inside the house, Onyx knows to get up and stand at the door as a sign that she may need to go to the toilet outside. Some times when she’s done that she has gone to the toilet outside, the other times she’s just wanted to go and lay outside in the sun.
SLEEPINGOnyx has been sleeping inside of a night, and we’ve had no issues with her sleeping right through the night so she’s a very good sleeper. She’s been sleeping in the hallway at nighttime and have had no accidents during the night. Prior to going to bed we’ll let Onyx outside to go to the toilet and occasionally does need some encouragement to go to the toilet, for example, walking with her to the grassed area and then she’ll know to go to the toilet.
EXERCISE/PLAYOnyx loves a walk and is a very social girl, wanting to walk/run up to other dogs as they pass. We’ve found that Onyx has been good around other dogs and will sniff and allow other dogs to sniff her. If Onyx doesn’t have her way and isn’t allowed to say hello to other dogs as they pass by when walking, she’ll certainly let you know about it with a little cry/whine. On the lead, Onyx is a very strong girl so you’ll need to have firm grip when taking her for walks. She’ll pull for the first 10 or some minutes and then after that she’s been well behaved and will walk at your pace. When walking at your pace, she can zig zag a bit and want to sniff all the sidewalks but will generally follow you along.
TRAVELLINGOnyx is a very good passenger in the car, and happily sits in the back seat either looking out the window or will lay down on the back seat to have a snooze.
