About Winter
Winter is a very alert, active, intelligent and sweet young dog. She had previously lived her life as a farm dog but was causing more mischief than assistance with the stock so it was time for her to try out a different scene. Winter is reserved when she first meets you but with time and a gentle approach she soon warms up. She has been the same with other friendly dogs and has eventually had a nice play. It’s important for Winter that the process of meeting new dogs is managed, rather than just being thrown into a yard together. Winter has some guarding issues to work on - this means she will growl if another dog approaches while she has food or toys in any situation. She has had a couple of skirmishes with her resident foster-siblings but her foster carers can help you work through these issues with her if there is another dog in your home. Winter travels quietly in the car, is learning to walk and run nicely on a lead and absolutely loves having her toys. She will gently play with a soft teddy for hours. She is gradually getting used to being indoors but being such an active girl she tends to trot around the house playing with her toy rather than settling down onto a bed. She would do really well with crate training. Winter is quite content to be outside and would rather you join her there instead of both being inside. She is a very active dog so her new family must understand she requires a significant amount of daily exercise. A walk around the block twice a day will not be enough – she needs a running or hiking partner and stimulating toys to keep her clever mind busy while you are out. She would really benefit from obedience training (she does NOT have a recall off-lead yet) and would excel at dog sports such as agility. Winter loves playing soccer and in water. She barks while playing but is not a nuisance barker during the day (so long as she has had enough exercise). We don’t believe she has spent much time around kids, although she has been OK with the handful of polite, older children she has recently met. We recommend re-homing her with kids at least ten years old and up. Once she settled into her foster home, she began sleeping in the laundry without a peep. Winter may take several weeks or even months to really adjust to her new home – so please bear this in mind before sending an application. You will need to be very patient with her and manage your expectations about the first few weeks together.
Winter is always making the people around her laugh with her funny expressions and gorgeous ears. She is a very sweet character who needs some guidance in the world. The family who invests in her now will be rewarded for many years to come.

3. If your are successful, one of our volunteers will contact you to organise a meet and greet at your home and conduct a yard check at the same time.
4. Should all go to plan, you will be welcomed to start your 2 week trial period immediately. Adoption fee will be required to be paid at the beginning of the trial period.
During the 2 week trial period, should you decide that this dog is not for you, you are welcome to return the dog (the more notice the better, to ensure we have a foster carer available) and your payment will be retunded to you in full, within 3 business days of the return of the dog.
**PLEASE NOTE: WE ASK THAT YOU PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT US BEFORE FILLING IN OUR ONLINE ADOPTION FORM**.
We are a volunteer run organisation, who have their own jobs during the day, we don't have someone manning our phones 24/7, therefore cannot respond to all inquiries immediately. The fastest way to have your questions answered is to include it in the application form. This will speed up your application with us, and help us communicate with you faster.
Please be patient with us, as the unpredictable nature of rescue may prevent us from clearing all enquiries regularly.
