About Roxy
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
NAME: Roxy
BEFORE SAFE ESPERANCE: Came to us from the local pound.
BREED: Jack Russell X Red Heeler
General breed traits: Jack Russell - Generally lively, independent and clever. They are trainable but have a mind of their own and if bored can exhibit destructive behaviours such as digging and chewing. Terriers are devoted to their people, affectionate and love being with them so cannot be left for long periods. Jack Russells can exhibit 'small dog syndrome' unless well socialised and so may be reactive to larger dogs which can get them into trouble if not monitored.
Red Heeler (Australian Cattle Dog) :Affectionate, devoted and protective of family but can be wary of strangers. Usually attaches to one person and loves to be close. Very, very high energy and highly intelligent - they love to have a job and if not mentally and physically worked enough they will be destructive. Bred to herd by nipping so is mouthy and will nip cattle, children, pets, cars, anything that moves. They have a strong prey drive with other small animals unless reared with them. Not for novice owners.
ASSETS: Easy going, affectionate, eager to please, friendly, submissive, playful, and a complete sweetheart!
FAVOURITE THINGS: Roxy loves to play with a ball but isn't so keen to give it back! She enjoys going in the car to the beach for a run and loves to play with other friendly dogs. She also loves soft toys but destroys them quickly and loves her kong toy too. Roxy has also become our branch Kleptomaniac. She loves to find your things and take them somewhere secret - usually in the garden - and have a bit of a chew!
OTHER ANIMALS: She gets on well with other friendly dogs generally and loves to play rough and tumble with them. When she sees an unknown dog she will often bark, showing a lack of confidence, but if the dog is friendly, once met she is fine. She won't be suited to a home with cats as she is overly focused on them and would probably chase if given the opportunity.
GENERAL INFO: Roxy is an extremely sweet girl who is very eager to please. She is working on her housetraining at present and is almost there apart from the odd accident. With consistency and routine she should have this sorted very soon. She walks well on the lead but will pull when she sees other people or dogs as she wants to meet them! She is scared of loud voices so would be best suited to a quieter home. She is doing well with her command training and with ongoing, gentle encouragement she will come on in leaps and bounds. She is a smoochy girl and will happily sit on your knee for ages.
HOME ESSENTIALS:
*Stability: A home where someone is home for most of the day on a permanent basis (not just through Covid 19) or can take her with them when they go out. Due to her shaky start we will only rehome her with children who are 8+.
*Time: Roxy needs an owner who will put in the time to expose her to new experiences and to train and socialise her with new people as well as dogs. Structured classes where she can learn, socialise and have safe exposure are a must - she missed out on some early socialisation so building her confidcence around unknown dogs is very important. 2 good walks a day are essential to keep her happy.
*Space: Roxy needs a well fenced, secure yard to run around in to burn off her energy, with some grass and interesting things for her to sniff.
*Love: Roxy needs to be allowed to be inside or out as she chooses, to sleep inside at night and to be included as part of the family.
If Roxy sounds like the perfect dog for you, please send an enquiry and we'll be in touch soon.
