About Bruno ~ 3yr Old Rottweiler ( Rehomed 23/11/20)
We have been fostering Bruno, and now we are searching for his forever home. Bruno
is a 3 year old, purebred male Rottweiler. Bruno has had a troubled past and wasnt shown the love or care he deserves. He wasn’t treated well, and has signs of being both emotionally and physically abused (he still has some scars healing).
Bruno will need an experienced dog owner, with the ability to put work and time into
training him. He will need a home with no young children and no other dogs at this
stage. He will need someone who spends a lot of time at home with him, so if you
work intermittently or from home that would be excellent. He will need firm, but
loving guidance, and a strong trainer to support him. I want to stress that we have not
seen any aggression from Bruno, just anxiety that manifests in different situations.
In terms of behaviour, Bruno has some positives and some things to work on. We
have seen great improvements in his behaviour around food and people. He has met
our families with success, and through positive reinforcement (many treats!), and
slow, gentle introductions, we have seen that he is starting to realise most people are
kind and worthy of trust. We have also had huge improvements with his manners around food.
The biggest thing for Bruno is anxiety. He gets separation anxiety when you go into
another room (for example, at night), and will whine for a while. He is also anxious
around other dogs. These behaviours will improve with time and training, but you
need to be committed to working through them with him.
His obedience is pretty good, and he has a high treat drive. He needs to learn “stay”
and “lie down”. We are working on “come”. He knows “sit”, “shake”, “drop” (for
balls/toys) and “wait” (for food). We have found a combination of a hand gesture and
the command work best for Bruno, and he is much more responsive when you include
a hand gesture.
His lead manners are good, however if he sees another dog it becomes difficult to get his attention, and he can pull a bit. Due to this he will need someone confident with big dogs. We have an excellent trainer we have organised for him, and she has helped us immensely with Bruno already. Sarah is confident he will make strides if he is with
people who are willing and able to put lots of time, energy and love into Bruno. We
will pass on her details, as we thing it would be excellent for him to continue with
Sarah.
Overall, he has typical rotty behaviour - a bit boisterous and strong willed, but he’s
eager to learn, with a high treat drive. With experienced owners, he will be very
responsive to training.
He has a big beautiful head, and he’s the most loving, cuddly boy once he gets to
know you, with lots of love to give. He adores toys and loves to play fetch with them,
and now he knows walks aren’t scary he loves a walk. After a few days, you will find
he rolls over for belly rubs and snuggles, or he’ll come put his head on your lap and
make very cute little happy snorts. He has tonnes of personality, and we have
absolutely fallen in love with him. Bruno deserves the world, so now we’re looking
for someone to give it to him.
