Jobst-Gerhard is a beautiful boy with a sensitive and affectionate soul - he’s looking for a family that will give him the time and space to relax and discover himself. He’s almost cat-like in the way he loves cuddling with you on the sofa, and will follow you around like a shadow, but he will run a mile if you try and go to fuss him if he’s not ready. Any excessive shows of affection frighten him, so you need to be strong enough to go about your business, and wait for HIM to come to YOU - he will reward you with THE most perfect snuggles. (Might not be suitable for small children here - it depends on how well-trained the kids are!) He’s pretty vocal when he isn’t sure of a situation or a person, but it’s just his way of telling you he’s uncomfortable - he’s a chatty little boy! Loud and sudden noises still frighten him, but this is improving all of the time (we mowed the whole garden and not one woof!)
His ideal home would be with either another dog that likes to play (not overly dominant or anxious), or a family that are committed to socialising Jobst-Gerhard and making him a integral part of their group. He loves to play with toys and anything he can chew, and running around outside is great, especially in and out of his water pool! He sleeps with his foster brothers in the laundry indoors, and settles well. He’s learning manners on his walks, and is improving every time, and sits and waits really well, especially for his breakfast and dinner!
Positive reinforcement training is the ONLY way forward for this boy - he loves his food so will do anything for treats, so there really is no need for any “alpha”-type control, which will just frighten him and make him shutdown. This is a deal-breaker, so if you don’t agree, please don’t apply.
Jobst-Gerhard is a very special boy who deserves a very special home. If you think you might be it, then please get in touch. Please note, the adoption fee reflects his need for consistency and ongoing support with his anxiety.
