About Rusty *acreage or farm home only
Rusty is a loving, submissive, friendly boy who loves his people and other animals. He's best suited to a family with an existing dog, cat and maybe a horse or two <3
He does need a specific type of home - he spent most of his life in a concrete pen on a semi rural property, seemingly as a guard dog but he was terrible at that as he loves everyone, so he was just kept penned. For 6 long years :( So he's very inexperienced at life and some things make him anxious - suburban backyards, inside living, being in a moving car, too much traffic going past when he's walking on lead.
In foster care he had a semi rural home where he had a big fenced yard, a dog to hang out with, a cat who would do zoomies around the yard if he managed to sneak out the back door, and a Clydesdale he'd stand under sometimes. He loved this environment as it was the closest to how he's been brought up, and his anxiety was almost non-existent.
We also trialed him in a suburban backyard and home and he was an anxious mess, not coping at all. So we're really seeking a home like his foster home and this is non negotiable, please don't enquire if your home is not semi rural or an acreage and has existing other animals (and secure fences as his recall isn't great should he get over or under a fence).
He prefers to sleep outside and has a thick double coat which insulates him nicely, he'd be ok sleeping in a laundry but not inside the house yet, he isn't ready for inside.
He walks well on lead after his initial excitement about walkies settles, and he'd benefit from his new owner continuing training by reinforcing his loose lead walking and going on lots of not too stimulating quiet walks where he can relax and be himself.
He's cuddly, goofy, gentle and respectful of others' space. He's an absolute sweetheart of a dog who's had an absolutely crap start to life, but for the right home and family he will be adored and adored you right back :)

About Sunny Days:
Sunny Days Rescue & Rehab is a registered charity, foster care network and private shelter, focusing on the rescue, rehab and rehoming of ‘true stray’ cats - cats who've never had experience with humans or a human home.
The overall objective of our organisation is to:
💕 successfully physically and psychologically rehabilitate terrified cats and find them homes which understand their needs and are compassionate to their history,
💕 remove complete stray cat colonies from the community and ensure they will never breed again or be back on the street again,
💕 provide an example of the potential to rehab unsocialised cats to other organisations who may not have understood or attempted to achieve that potential before,
💕 educate the community on how many stray cats are hiding in the dark corners of community trying to survive and that desexing is the only way to begin to lessen these numbers and the resulting suffering,
💕 provide an opportunity for volunteers to learn animal husbandry and handling skills to a high level which may help them in their future work in animal welfare and as pet owners,
💕 and provide an opportunity for compassionate people to come together and pool their skills for the betterment of a demographic of animal that is mostly ignored and misunderstood despite us humans being their source and the reason they even exist.
Please support us in our important work by clicking the pink DONATE button on this page. Thankyou! 💕
