About Thomas - Located in Armadale
Meet your forever friend, Thomas. Thomas is pretty shy and a sensitive cat as he's had a pretty rough start to life! But once he gets to know you, he'll start to open up. He loves having his chin and back scratched and lots of play times with the toy wand. He’s made a huge amount of progress since coming into foster care, and he’s looking for his forever home to take those last few steps.
Thomas has gorgeous markings and temperament, diagnosed as FIV+. He’s scared of his own shadow, so don’t expect him to jump in your lap when you enter the room. Everything needs to be on his terms–but he’ll happily hide away until his ready, there’s not an aggressive bone in his body!
Thomas is feeling more and more comfortable living with humans, and loves having a safe a secure place to sleep, eat and go to the bathroom. He needs someone that has the time to build up his confidence and might work well with an older, relaxed cat that he can learn and build his confidence from.
**Thomas is FIV+ - but don't see that as a negative, because Thomas is a great catch.
Read more about FIV under "Medical Notes".
Before applying to meet one of our cats, please ensure that you:

- you have all the necessary bits and pieces to welcome your new family member, starting with a cat carrier to bring them home, a litter tray, litter, food and bowls as well as a bed, toys and scratchers, and
- you are ready to welcome them home NOW. We are unable to hold a cat for you if you are not ready to adopt.
IMPORTANT NOTE - COVID19 PRACTICES
Due to the current lock down in Melbourne we once again need to do things a little differently!
Once you have applied for a cat in our care our foster carer will contact you by telephone. If at the end of this discussion you would like to proceed, we will then arrange an online meet n greet with the carer and cat.
If you think this cat might be your PURRFECT match we will be utilising our premises at Neko HQ in Preston for the final meet n greet and if agreed adoption as our carers are unable to have guest in their homes. We ask that only one person from the family attend, and that all COVID safe practices are followed to ensure your health and that of our volunteers as well as the general community.
We thank you for your patience throughout this process.

Medical notes
The adoption fee includes de-sexing, micro-chip, current vaccination, flea and worm treatment while in care.
This cat is FIV positive. FIV positive cats live a normal life for many many years and we cannot predict the life span of these cats. FIV positive cats sometimes have a scruffy coat and the condition can lead to chronic recurrent infections in the mouth, eye and skin. FIV cannot infect people, however it can infect other cats through bite wounds commonly from fights. FIV positive cats can co-exist with other cats that don't have FIV without issues.
We encourage that the cat is either an indoor cat or a confined cat - eg access to a cat run outdoors. We recommend regular vet visits (6 monthly) to monitor weight, coat changes, mouth etc.
No other known health issues.
Maneki Neko Cat Rescue would like to help ensure you and your new companion/s have a long and happy life together. Please be advised that if you should find that you are not a purrfect match, or if you need to rehome your new pet at any stage of its life, Maneki Neko Cat Rescue will take the cat back into care and find a new home.
Maneki Neko Cat Rescue provides a 7 day health warranty on all adoptions. Although all our cats and kittens are health checked prior to adoption, sometimes the stress of a new environment can upset their immune system.
