About Snow Bear
Snow Bear
Before you skip the profile and apply, without sounding Blunt....
This boy is not a pet !
He is bred to work and has the potential so please don't apply and tell me that you'll take him to the park and walks on the beach and hell selep in the kids beds etc blah blah
You wont get him !
I'm seeking for this beautiful boy and experienced Maremma home to take him to his full potential
If you are seeking a LiveStock Guardian with heaps of potential , Bear is your Boy
At only 7-1/2 months old he has enormous potential and in the right hands this boy should be a gun.
Bear has been living in a large enclosure side by side with chickens for a few weeks now and has started to show potential of bond to the flock
Although his free range time with them has been limited he has shown a very calm disposition around them and hass happily lazed around under a tree while they flock around him.
All free range time has been supervised to date and I suggest this continues as any experienced handler would be aware.
Beat as per breed trait in many is quiet aloof around humans and is not an affectionate or dog that wants to be involved in what you're doing.
He takes time to warm to people and will be standoffish with most and bark at all things he is unsure of.
This is a positive thing for me as it shows that he can work and not be distracted by wanting to be a part of the goings on in the home
Bear is fine with other dogs and again not interested in the whole play stuff to much, so I feel could be a great young pup for an older experienced dog to teach.
He has a huge appetite and isn't at all fussy about what he eats
Currently on a diet of Royal Cannin puppy dry, Prime 100 and raw bones
Bear loves water as breed typical and weather doesn't bother him'
He will still guard in the rain and wind so although no thunder storms have occured he has not been bothered by anything we have had
Bear will take time to warm to a new handler as most of this breed experienced will be aware
The Maremma is a friendly and well-balanced flock guardian. For several decades, it has also achieved success as a companion dog. Sober and dignified, this loyal, brave and determined dog makes an excellent guard dog without being a constant barker. It is correctly described as affectionate, but not dependent. Working lines that are put out to work will not easily follow your every command submissively, as they are bred and trained to be independent. You must display calm, but firm, confident and consistent leadership toward the dog in order to make it listen. It is very intelligent and its training requires mutual respect in handling and voice, and above all, consistency. It gets along with other dogs and pets and can be slightly reserved with strangers but not strongly so. People who are not welcome on your property will be stopped in their tracks. The Maremma is not as large as many of its fellow flock guards, but he still possesses comparable endurance and strength, as well as the ability to make up for the extra 50 pounds it lacks. It is alert and independent. A flock guard of impressive dominance and lifelong dedication, this breed takes control over its flock. When humans are part of the dog's pack, the humans must be pack leader over the dog. Allowing any dog of any size to be a human's pack leader is dangerous, as dogs instinct
