About Apollo & Biggie
Adorable brothers Apollo & Biggie, would love some help to reach the next step in their rehabilitation!
These boys are inseparable and are just the most entertaining and beautiful pair to be around, they're total characters! At the moment they will approach for hand sniffs and treats but have reached a bit of a plateau in their development and this is usually a sign they're ready for the next step - foster care!
As a starting point in a foster home, all they need is a spare room or office and some fun things to keep them busy while getting used to their new environment - plastic tubs upside down, cardboard boxes, a cat scratcher if you have one, maybe the branch of a tree to hide amongst the leaves! Then some soft blankies in hidey holes, food and water bowls, and at least one litter tray. With a cool little setup like this, at the start they don't need much more from you except a daily feed and litter clean. You may want to sit in the room and read, browse on your phone or do some office work; anything that shows them you're safe and calm and friendly 🙂
After this initial adjustment period, they'll become more curious and brave, and will begin seeking you out, and this is when the magic starts to happen 😃 Timid cats are often known to suddenly become completely friendly, as if a switch has been turned on! Its one of the most rewarding experiences you can ever have to see an animal overcome their fear and settle into happiness, contentment, and safety ❤
To foster these guys we're asking for a minimum foster duration of 12 weeks, although longer is certainly okay. You may even fall in love and decide you can't bear to see them go!
Fostering not only helps our current cats, it helps free up space in our shelter for the many stray mums who come in pregnant or with kittens over Spring and Summer, we need every bit of space we can find at this time of year! If you think fostering these adorable bros is for you, or maybe a different shy cat, please send us an email with the subject line 'Fostering for rehab' to sunnydaysrescue@gmail.com Thankyou! 😃

*** PLEASE NOTE OUR INDOOR CAT POLICY
Most of our cats were either born, or lived for some time, on the street and have only ever known the outside world to be a source of fear and survival of the fittest. So although they've been rehabilitated and are in most ways domesticated by adoption, they will 100% return to fearful behaviour if let outside. Hence we have an indoor only policy (or indoor with access to an enclosure, netted area or leash walking) unless clearly stated in an individual cat's profile. Please consider this before making an enquiry. Thankyou <3

Sunny Days is a registered charity with Tax Deductible Gift Recipient status, and runs a non profit rehabilitation centre for stray and feral cats in Geelong, Vic, focusing on the rescue, rehab and rehoming of ‘true stray’ cats. These are cats who’ve grown up with very little or no experience with humans; cats and kittens who would otherwise be ignored, hit by cars, baited, euthanised or die alone of illness or hunger. In our rehab centre, we see each cat as an individual, requiring it's own individualised rehoming program.
Why strays? The domestic and stray cat breeding problem is a gap in the companion animal welfare system that is under-resourced, under-educated, and not being addressed at a pace that can keep up with the numbers of cats being born. What little current methods of managing the issue there are, are a bandaid to an ever growing and ever concerning community issue that has a negative impact on responsible cat ownership, native wildlife, over-full shelters, shelter and vet performed euthanasia, and perpetuates the giving away of animals online. We feel if cat owners are provided adequate resources, education and advice, and stray cat populations are actively worked on, that the cat breeding problem can be dramatically reduced. We believe animal welfare and government organisations have a responsibility to create and deliver tools to make this happen.
The overall objective of our organisation is to:
- successfully physically and psychologically rehabilitate terrified cats and find them homes which understand their needs and are compassionate to their history,
- remove complete stray cat colonies from the community and ensure they will never breed again or be back on the street again,
- provide an example of the potential to rehab unsocialised cats to other organisations who may not have understood or attempted to achieve that potential before,
- educate the community on how many stray cats are hiding in the dark corners of community trying to survive and that desexing is the only way to begin to lessen these numbers and the resulting suffering,
- provide an opportunity for volunteers to learn animal husbandry and handling skills to a high level which may help them in their future work in animal welfare and as pet owners,
- and provide an opportunity for compassionate people to come together and pool their skills for the betterment of a demographic of animal that is mostly ignored and misunderstood despite us humans being their source and the reason they even exist.
