On Hold
About Xavier
When the Deputy Prime Minister encouraged unemployed Australians to become fruit pickers in northern QLD, we had to hold Xavier back from hopping on a plane to the sunny state! He thought it sounded like the dream job, as he has a total fascination with fruits and vegetables. Each visit to the kitchen is a new adventure where he can investigate new produce his humans bring home each day. If he’s lucky, Xavier gets even gets to try (dog friendly) fruits and veggies. Other times he’ll just inspect the food with endless fascination.
If he’s not in the kitchen you can find Xavier cuddling with his humans. He’s got a big heart and lots of love to share. After a full nights sleeping, Xavier is full of beans and ready to give his humans the BIGGEST good morning smooch. His sweet spot is his neck; once you start you just can’t stop lest he becomes the world’s biggest sook! Xavier would suit a home with lots of people who are able to give him all the attention he deserves.
He is quite the looker too. Fluffier than most greyhounds and a beautiful fawn colour, Xavier captures attention wherever he goes. He is a bit of a nervous walker so doesn’t like to be out of the house for too long. Playing in the backyard will help exert any additional energy he has. He wouldn’t mind being an only dog as long as there are plenty of humans to play with.
No cat or small dog applications please.
No children under six
No full time workers unless working from home post COVID19
Xavier need a back yard.
We only consider applications who compete our online application.
When this is done we can make contact to discuss adopting a greyhound and potential suitable greys currently in foster care.
Adoption details
Dogs are pack animals and Greyhounds, in particular, are very familiar with being surrounded by other dogs in their racing kennel environment. For this reason, when left alone without people or other dogs for company, they can be prone to separation anxiety which can manifest in destructive and/or noisy behaviour. Yes, they may "grow out" of it after a few weeks in their new home, but why put the dog through that stress to ultimately live all day alone, while everyone is at work? As a result we do not rehome dogs into households where they are left on their own for more than 4 hours per day, without either people or another dog for company.
During the COVID crisis, not all of our rescued Greyhounds will have the usual socialisation with other dogs so we may advise to use a muzzle in some situations until the dog is fully socialised.

Following your initial application, we conduct a home check. Our dogs are placed on a two week trial. The adoption fee is paid at time of placement and reimbursed if the trial is unsuccessful.
After the trial period is deemed successful, the adoption process is finalised.
