About Ali ~ 5 yr old Boxer ~ On Trial 10/12/20
Are you a boxer lover? Do their cute little squished faces make you go weak at the knees? If so, you are going to be smitten with Ali our very special 5 year old Boxer boy who is looking for his perfect Boxer-loving forever home.
Ali has had a very hard first 5 years however he still has a trusting and affectionate temperament once he knows you. He likes his treats so he will be your best friend once he knows you’ve got some tasty rewards to give him. As with most Boxers’ he’s smart but he hides it by acting like a clown.
Since coming into foster care Ali has been relatively chilled out for a Boxer (rare I know!). He did have some severe open wounds on his legs that have required veterinary care and frequent dressing changes - these wounds have slowed him down a tad. He has been such a good boy dealing with this extra vet-care and rehabilitation despite the fact that his wounds must have been extremely painful. His legs are healing well so perhaps once time has passed and he has fully recovered he’ll get that Boxer b-b-bounce back in his step.
Ali is learning that the world outside his yard is not as scary as he thinks. He finds cars and traffic driving past him pretty scary when out on lead. So he’s going to need a family who can teach him that walking is fun and positive. Once he’s more confident he should get a short daily walk and then he’ll happily keep the couch warm as he can be quite a lounge lizard. He has his basic commands down-pat and he likes to learn new things. Due to his history it's vital that his new family only use positive training methods when training him. He loves being inside so he’s certainly no yard-only dog ! His new family needs to welcome him inside and teach him that their home is his home too.
Ali currently lives with a few other foster dogs and he can be selective with some of the other male dogs - eye-balling and getting into scuffles with them if he doesn’t like them. Given his rough start sharing is still all very new to him so his new family will need to commit to continued positive socialisation moving forward. Ali is better with the quiet and calmer female dogs that he lives with. We would like him to be adopted as either an only dog whilst he continues to learn to be part of a family, or matched with a calm and well-rounded female dog who will be a good role model for him.
Ali won’t suit full time workers as he would find long hours on his own too lonely - if you work from home or are semi-retired he’d be in his element. He’d probably be perfect in a family with older die-hard Boxer lovers where the two-legged kids have left home. He hasn’t had anything to do with children since being in foster care so any kids in the house would need to be in their late teens, dog-experienced and empathetic to the fact that this boy hasn’t had a lot of love or attention previously.
