About Reuben
Are you in need of a lockdown buddy? Someone to spend those weekends with; to keep you company while you binge watch TV, bake banana bread and clean out your cupboards for the 100th time? Then we’ve got the perfect pup for you.
Rueben is happiest chilling at home with his loved ones. He is the definition of a homebody (some may call him lazy, but he prefers the term ‘zen’) who seeks out comfort wherever he can. He’s not particularly adventurous – with company he likes exploring the backyard, but he’ll come back inside immediately if everyone else does too. Rueben’s perfect day is lazing about on the couch, rising briefly for toilet breaks, dinnertime, and gathering the confidence to go for his daily walk.
While he is very comfortable around the home, Rueben gets a bit anxious outdoors. He is noise sensitive and will react to the slightest sudden sounds; birds, cars, trucks or even wind. He is getting more confident over time but will need a patient owner who has the time to take things slow. He’s much more confident walking with another dog and may benefit from living with a canine companion to keep him company.
Rueben will take a little while to shine in his new home, but once he opens up he shows an affectionate, calm and playful nature that would make anyone fall in love.
No cat or small dog applications please but another medium or larger breed would be great
no children under six
no full time workers unless working from home.
Due to the limited time of volunteers, only potential adopters who complete our online application will be considered :

Adoption details
Dogs are pack animals and Greyhounds, in particular, are very familiar with being surrounded by other dogs in their racing kennel environment. For this reason, when left alone without people or other dogs for company, they can be prone to separation anxiety which can manifest in destructive and/or noisy behaviour. Yes, they may "grow out" of it after a few weeks in their new home, but why put the dog through that stress to ultimately live all day alone, while everyone is at work? As a result we do not rehome dogs into households where they are left on their own for more than 4 hours per day, without either people or another dog for company.
During the COVID crisis, not all of our rescued Greyhounds will have the usual socialisation with other dogs so we may advise to use a muzzle in some situations until the dog is fully socialised.

Following your initial application, we conduct a home check. Our dogs are placed on a two week trial. The adoption fee is paid at time of placement and reimbursed if the trial is unsuccessful.
After the trial period is deemed successful, the adoption process is finalised.
