About Manny
Manny’s life motto is ‘Seize the Walkway’. Every time he leaves the house Manny makes it his mission to receive cuddles from every stranger that walks in his direction. He takes it very personally if they don’t offer him a scratch behind the ear, looking very gloomy and downtrodden until the next victim walks in his path.
This motto sums up Manny very nicely as he is one of the most sociable greyhounds we’ve ever met. He lives for approval from people and is very responsive to affection. That being said, he does like a bit of alone time and is comfortable being left at home for periods of time. He’s still coming out of his shell and we feel his character will come even more to life with time, but he has adapted to life in foster care very well so far. He’s very smart and understands many commands like ‘come’, ‘stop’, ‘wait’, ‘stay’, ‘leave’ and ‘out’. It’s hit and miss as to whether he responds to them though!
He’s got a bit of a cheeky side, mainly when food is around. This can be used to your advantage for training purposes. He’s a bit too eager in the kitchen and has a tendency to counter surf. Household items, as well as food, are victims of this thievery. However, he rarely destroys the items, simply preferring to collect them by his bed instead.
Suspected old racing injuries means that Manny’s muscles spasm occasionally, which can be managed with acupuncture and massage (yes, for dogs!). He loves a good rub down as it’s an opportunity for more pats!

Adoption details
Dogs are pack animals and Greyhounds, in particular, are very familiar with being surrounded by other dogs in their racing kennel environment. For this reason, when left alone without people or other dogs for company, they can be prone to separation anxiety which can manifest in destructive and/or noisy behaviour. Yes, they may "grow out" of it after a few weeks in their new home, but why put the dog through that stress to ultimately live all day alone, while everyone is at work? As a result we do not rehome dogs into households where they are left on their own for more than 4 hours per day, without either people or another dog for company.
During the COVID crisis, not all of our rescued Greyhounds will have the usual socialisation with other dogs so we may advise to use a muzzle in some situations until the dog is fully socialised.
