About Ruby
Chihuahuas Buster and Ruby came to RSPCA Animal Care Centre in a bit of a state. Both had suffered extreme flea infestation for some time, resulting in dry, scaly, itchy skin and quite a lot of hair loss.
As well, both needed to be desexed, and Ruby's teeth were so rotten that she had all her teeth, bar 2, extracted. Some had rotted right into the nasal cavity. So Ruby must have been in considerable discomfort. Since having her operations, Ruby has grown happier and more confident with each day. At around 13 years of age, she probably hasn't felt this good for quite some time.
8 year old Buster had suffered from a ''cherry eye'' which had never been treated, and he had a lot of scarring on the eye, causing him to be effectively blind in that eye. So the best thing to do was remove the offending eye. The day after he had his eye removed and was also desexed, staff were amazed and amused next morning to see him doing ''zoomies'' around the office where they spend most of their time.
Buster still needs to have some teeth extracted which will be done in the next couple of weeks, and that will also make him feel much better.
Buster and Ruby, like most siblings, have fairly typical little disagreements, which is mostly when there are tasty chewies involved. However, when they are ready for a nap, they seem to always find the other one to snuggle with.
So, we want to keep Buster and Ruby together for their new chance at life. If you can offer these two little dogs that second chance, please come and meet them. They are a lot of fun!
