About Gypsy
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
NAME: Gypsy
BEFORE SAFE ESPERANCE: Came to us as an owner surrender.
BREED: Newfoundland X Border Collie X Red Heeler
General breed traits: Newfoundland, bred as a working dog, also makes a good family companion. They are affectionate and friendly with children, dogs and strangers. Large, strong dogs that have a tendency to drool and shed. They are easy to train and need exercise and mental stimulation. Grooming is a must.
Border Collie: these are herding dogs, highly intelligent with unlimited energy, stamina and drive. Can make great family companions as long as they get loads of mental and physical exercise - not couch potatoes they need a job. Easy to train but the herding instinct is strong and needs to be directed.
Red Heeler (Australian Cattle Dog) :Affectionate, devoted and protective of family but can be wary of strangers. Usually attaches to one person and loves to be close. Very, very high energy and highly intelligent - they love to have a job and if not mentally and physically worked enough can be destructive. Bred to herd by nipping so is mouthy and will nip cattle, children, pets, cars, anything that moves. They have a strong prey drive with other small animals unless reared with them. Not for novice owners.
ASSETS: Easy going, affectionate, assertive, friendly, laidback, eager to please, obedient, very active, protective, sweet and playful! She has a loving, sweet nature once she gets to know you and is extremely loyal.
FAVOURITE THINGS: Gypsy loves to be with her person and will happily spend all day just being where they are. She also loves her daily walks/runs, she is a high energy girl who loves to be active! She's very bright and loves to learn new things. She also loves water and will jump in at every opportunity!
OTHER ANIMALS: She gets on well with other dogs generally and would be suited to a home with another chilled male dog friend. She can be assertive so her fur friend needs to be easy come easy go. She is overly focused on cats and small animals so we won't place her in a home with small furry things!
GENERAL INFO: Gypsy is a complete lovebug, and with some gentle training and positive reassurance she has the potential to be the perfect companion. She has lived with children and we would recommend children over 12 who are dog savvy and respectful - adult supervision being essential. She generally walks nicely on her lead but has been used to a Halti if she pulls. She knows some commands but ongoing training with this will be required. She picks things up quickly and loves all interaction with her human. A calm home would be good for Gypsy - she doesn't like loud noises and will bark at unfamiliar sounds. Gypsy also isn't a fan of being left alone and may get up to mischief if left for long periods. Due to her background Gypsy can guard high value items such as toys and bones.
HOME ESSENTIALS:
*Stability: A home where someone is home for most of the day on a permanent basis (not just through Covid 19) or can take her with them when they go out.
*Time: Gypsy needs an owner who will put in the time to expose her to new experiences and to train and socialise her with new people (she can be a little anxious when meeting new humans) as well as dogs. Structured classes where she can learn, socialise and have safe exposure are a must and 2 good walks/runs a day are absolutely essential to keep her happy.
*Space: Gypsy needs a well fenced, secure yard to run around in to burn off her playful energy, with some grass and interesting things for her to sniff.
*Love: Gypsy needs to be allowed to be inside or out as she chooses, to sleep inside, which makes her feel more secure, and to be included as part of the family.
If Gypsy sounds like the perfect girl for you, please send an enquiry and we'll be in touch soon.
