About Suzie
If anyone can prove that age is just a number, it’s Suzie. She’s more like a teenager than an older lady; full of emotion and follows her heart over her head. She feels everything deeply; from joy and frustration, to love and anger. Sometimes she gets so excited her whole body trembles uncontrollably.
Full of life, light and love, Suzie doesn’t let anything stop her – even losing one of her eyes! She’s got the hang of the pirate life now, apart from occasionally bumping her head into things or thinking the dog in the mirror is a friend to play with. She can also get a bit startled if you sneak up on her.
After so many years in the racing industry, Suzie is adapting to life in foster rather well. But it has been a steep learning curve. She’s slowly learning to be patient with her food and she understands ‘no’ and ‘off the couch’, although you can’t always guarantee she’ll listen! She’s very smart and stubborn when she wants to be. Consistency and training will help her adjust to these unfamiliar rules.
She’s fairly active for her age and enjoys spending time in the backyard people watching, sniffing and digging holes (cheeky). One walk a day is enough though. Games and treats will help alleviate the digging behaviour.
Suzie is a true character that will have you falling in love with her quirky ways immediately. After so many years she deserves a loving home who will treat her like the queen she is.

Adoption details
Dogs are pack animals and Greyhounds, in particular, are very familiar with being surrounded by other dogs in their racing kennel environment. For this reason, when left alone without people or other dogs for company, they can be prone to separation anxiety which can manifest in destructive and/or noisy behaviour. Yes, they may "grow out" of it after a few weeks in their new home, but why put the dog through that stress to ultimately live all day alone, while everyone is at work? As a result we do not rehome dogs into households where they are left on their own for more than 4 hours per day, without either people or another dog for company.
During the COVID crisis, not all of our rescued Greyhounds will have the usual socialisation with other dogs so we may advise to use a muzzle in some situations until the dog is fully socialised.

Following your initial application, we conduct a home check. Our dogs are placed on a two week trial. The adoption fee is paid at time of placement and reimbursed if the trial is unsuccessful.
After the trial period is deemed successful, the adoption process is finalised.
