About Burrito

Meet Burrito.
This spicy little firecracker is ready for a new home. He is an affectionate and cuddly boy that really wants to be the king of the house hold. Although he is a sweetheart, he does have some resource guarding around food and his owners, and does not take kindly to strangers, often barking at them at the door until a proper introduction occurs. For this reason we would like to have a dedicated family to help him over come this issue with professional dog training. Please research trainers in your area and clearly identify who covers this area to put in your application.
He has not gotten along with small children previously and has no tolerance for them. His history with children under 12 years is not positive and quite stressful for him. For these reasons and to eliminate risks, we are only accepting families with no children or with teenage to adult children.
Burrito has some basic obedience, he can sit, wait and stay due to his extensive behavioural training. He walks great on the lead and has spent lots of time working on his manners with our trainers. He loves playing with dogs and people.
He can be walked easily with correction and consistency which is awesome as loves going on adventures. Like some bulldogs he can have selective hearing and pretend that he can't hear you. His recall training does need some work and we believe with training and consistency he will be capable of being a calm all rounded dog. We would love to find someone that will not let him forget his manners. It is recommended that he does not attend off leash areas as he could get distracted and separate from you. It is unknown how he will go with all dogs but he was homed with a female bulldog previously and was ok with co-living. He at times displayed some rude behaviours towards her so she will need to be socialised and tolerant to him while he learns his manners. we do NOT endorse dogs parks for socialisation, dog parks are a deal breaker. If you do have a dog, they must be calm and socialised with dogs of all sizes, they must attend a meet and greet should you proceed to that point.
He is not suitable for a home with cats or pocket pets due to his prey drive.
Training a frenchie can be tough work. They lose focus and interest quickly. They love praise and feeling that they are loved and a part of the family, yelling and punishments will cause the frenchie to lose interest in you and not engage in training.
Toilet training can be a tough process and may take up to six months or more to retrain him in your environment. Patience patience patience is needed. It's super important that he be toilet trained in your home so that he can spend summer in doors in cooler conditions so his breathing doesn't become laboured.
Please also note that french bulldogs cannot swim and need a lot of supervision near pools or other bodies of water.
Although a sought after breed and a charming young dog, he is not for the faint hearted. Not only do they have a range of health issues they can be very stubborn
We are looking for an experienced family that can continue with his training and ongoing socialisation.
Please note Frenchie's cannot do long walks and may struggle to breathe when it's hot. 15 minutes of exercise at a time is recommended.
Please note that we will only contact successful applicants due to the huge volume of enquiries and lack of time for our volunteers. Ensure that if you believe you are his future family that you answer the questionnaire with lots of details, yes or no answers will not be accepted or proceed to the next stage.
Deal breakers:
1. Unable to provide training and a consistent home
2. Children under 12 years old
3. Active dog at home
4. Home with cats or pocket pets (rabbits and guinea pigs)
5. Dog park or off leash homes.
6. Do not feed high quality dog food.
Medical notes
All vet work will be up to date at time of adoption.
A high quality diet is encouraged to maintain his amazing teeth and skin.
His health will need to be monitored closely throughout his life as he could develop well known French Bulldog issues.
