About Fonzie
With his sleek black coat and little white chest, Fonzie looks like he’s straight out of Happy Days. While he hasn’t got the hang of the Fonzie signature catchphrase and thumbs up yet, he certainly embodies the characters loveable larrikin nature and kind soul.
Fonzie gets along with everyone. He tends to get excited when meeting new dogs, but calms quickly and is always respectful. He would be happy living with another dog, or by himself provided he has lots of human company. He responds well to training and has learnt how to go to his bed and ‘drop’ on command. However he gets distracted easily, so regular, short sessions will get the best outcome for him.
Despite being exceptionally well-behaved most of the time, Fonzie does have kleptomania tendencies. If left to his own devices, Fonzie will steal whatever he can get his paws on; shoes, blankets toys – he’s even tried taking the shower curtain! He will never destroy his stolen goods, preferring to gather them on his bed or outside like a magpie. Good hiding spots will be needed for precious items in his new home.
He is still learning a few basic manners (e.g. around meal time) but overall Fonzie is an absolute delight. A confident, happy, expressive boy that will have you falling in love in no time.

Adoption details
Dogs are pack animals and Greyhounds, in particular, are very familiar with being surrounded by other dogs in their racing kennel environment. For this reason, when left alone without people or other dogs for company, they can be prone to separation anxiety which can manifest in destructive and/or noisy behaviour. Yes, they may "grow out" of it after a few weeks in their new home, but why put the dog through that stress to ultimately live all day alone, while everyone is at work? As a result we do not rehome dogs into households where they are left on their own for more than 4 hours per day, without either people or another dog for company.
During the COVID crisis, not all of our rescued Greyhounds will have the usual socialisation with other dogs so we may advise to use a muzzle in some situations until the dog is fully socialised.

Following your initial application, we conduct a home check. Our dogs are placed on a two week trial. The adoption fee is paid at time of placement and reimbursed if the trial is unsuccessful.
After the trial period is deemed successful, the adoption process is finalised.
