About Dobby ~ 4yo Kelpie x ~ Adopted 9/12/20
Hi I'm Dobby and I'm a very handsome 4 year old tan Kelpie x. I’m on the search for an experienced single person or couple who are looking to adopt a loyal and well-behaved new best mate (that’s me!).
I’m quite cautious and reserved when meeting new people but once introduce positively I will warm up to you - I’m not exactly a social butterfly but with COVID times who is ?
As far as Kelpies go I am quite relaxed and low energy. I have beautiful basic training and manners so check out my profile videos to see me in action. I sit, drop, crawl and wait for my food, I’ll also go to my bed when asked. I’m very clever and responsive to training so if you are keen to teach me new tricks I’m happy to learn. For a Kelpie I'm not highly energetic - I don’t bounce off the walls like some do ! I'm happy to join you for a daily walk - getting out and about pleases me greatly. I’ve never jogged before but I might get up a trot with you if you are a jogger.
I would be great on small acreage or a hobby farm (with a proper house yard). I can trot along beside you and we can do chores together - I’m too much of a city slicker to be a working dog but I’m smart enough to help you with jobs around the property (like laze around and watch you mow the lawn). I would also do well on a normal size house block in suburbia as long as you take me for a daily walk for the mental and physical stimulation. I like to play with the hose or sprinklers in the garden during summer to keep cool.
My perfect home is one with just adults as I'm not comfortable with visiting children. I do live with a toddler and I’ve been fine with her however having visiting kids in my yard is not my cup of tea. If you do have kids come over I will require a safe place that is completely separate from them to keep everyone happy. Please note that I have unfortunately bitten before so please only apply for me if you are an experienced owner. Crate training using positive techniques would be highly beneficial in my new home. In an environment with only experienced adults I'm a really easy-going guy, so if you are semi-retired and/or your kids have all left the nest then I might be a great match for you. I may also suit a very dog-savvy single person or couple who don't have kids or have no kids planned at all (well none with two legs anyways!)
I would be fine in a furever home as a solo dog or with a medium sized female dog who is happy to share her humans with me. I'm used to sleeping outside - however I'll sleep inside if it's on offer . I love to dig myself a little den under a shrub in the garden and laze away the day if you go out. I enjoy play time with you - but I’m not huge on stamina so I’ll call time-out myself when I get too tired and have a snooze.
As you can tell by my profile I’m going to be pretty awesome in the right home (a kid free one!) so feel free to email Jo on rescuepooch75@gmail.com to find out more. You can also fill out the adoption questionnaire here https://tinyurl.com/drnadopt. I am in foster care near Thornton (Newcastle). I am available for long distance adoption only if you are willing to travel to meet me and if you are my perfect long-term home.
My adoption fee is $400. I am desexed, vaccinated and microchipped and have been treated for fleas and worms. You can see all of our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au
Medical notes
Dobby is a healthy and easy going boy - however due to a previous bite he requires a home with no children or visiting children.
