About Hope
Hope is an older lady, her owner died and she was rescued from an uncertain fate by Forever Friends. She was probably loved and treated well all her life, as she is trusting and confident.
Hope is very polite and has lovely manners with other dogs, people and children. She currently lives with a 2.5yo child and 2 other dogs (and don’t worry, also 2 adults) and gets on well with them all. She’s particularly good with the child who played nurse with Hopes stitches after a recent surgery. Being the older wise one, Hope licked the child and then got out of the way.
Hope is well trained, she is used to sleeping inside in the lounge room or bedroom. She likes to sleep on her own bed or on the couch. She is good on lead and good on the car. She’s easy to train and adapts quickly. She wants to participate in whatever you are doing and will follow you around the house or sleep at your feet.
Because Hope is 11years old, she does have a bit of arthritis and will sometimes lick her wrist or hip. This has significantly improved in the last few weeks in foster care as she has lost a lot of weight and has been taking supplements for her joints.
She came into care very overweight, her hair was like straw and she had terrible breath. Through some medical assistance and good diet and exercise, Hope’s fur is now soft and silky and her breath doesn’t smell anymore. The supplements will need to continue in her new home so Hope can continue to improve and then to maintain the joints in the long run.
She is quite energetic and loves long walks. She currently gets walked 1-1.5 hours every day, her arthritis doesn’t slow her down. When she gets home she has a nice long rest and then she’s ready to go again.
Hope’s hearing isn’t 100%, but she accommodates for that by always keeping you in her line of sight and watching your facial expressions. Having said that, if she’s called loudly from inside the house she will most likely hear you from the backyard and come running full pelt.
She’s a delight to her carers and will bring a few happy years to whoever is lucky enough to add her to their lives!
Medical notes
Hope is currently on silberstrol as she can leak a bit of urine if gets up too quick or startled in her sleep. It’s very common in older female dogs.
