About Bucks Melbourne
Bucks always wanted to be part of a big family. He doesn’t need a lot of attention but simply likes to be ‘one of the pack’ and is happiest when there are people around. He likes to be included in activities and would make a terrific adventure buddy when restrictions ease and people can travel to the beach or visit their local café.
He is still a bit nervous around busy traffic and trams, but with time and patience he is beginning to tackle his fears triggered by the sights and sounds of living in a suburban environment. When he walks in quieter streets he displays perfect walking etiquette, never pulls on the lead and is more than happy to accept pats from strangers along the way. He is a bit anxious around other dogs, particularly larger ones.
Around the house, Bucks is very easy-going. He has no issues climbing up and down stairs, is toilet-trained, is always keen to learn new tricks and commands, and sleeps through the night as long as he can see his humans are near. Some further training will be required for him to feel at ease sleeping in a separate part of the house.
Buck’s foster carers describe him as affectionate, playful, curious and chilled out. Being just a pup he has a little more energy than your typical greyhound but is very satisfied with two walks a day and will do zoomies to burn off any extra energy. He also loves playing with tennis balls and has the tendency to steal socks and hide them on his bed.
No cat or small dog applications please.
We only consider applications who compete our Gumtree Greys online application.
When this is done we can make contact to discuss adopting a greyhound and potential suitable greys currently in foster care.
Medical notes
Bucks currently has a cyst under his chin that is being treated with antibiotics. We have been advised to keep an eye on it after the antibiotics are done in case it comes back.
Adoption details
Dogs are pack animals and Greyhounds, in particular, are very familiar with being surrounded by other dogs in their racing kennel environment. For this reason, when left alone without people or other dogs for company, they can be prone to separation anxiety which can manifest in destructive and/or noisy behaviour. Yes, they may "grow out" of it after a few weeks in their new home, but why put the dog through that stress to ultimately live all day alone, while everyone is at work? As a result we do not rehome dogs into households where they are left on their own for more than 4 hours per day, without either people or another dog for company.
During the COVID crisis, not all of our rescued Greyhounds will have the usual socialisation with other dogs so we may advise to use a muzzle in some situations until the dog is fully socialised.

Following your initial application, we conduct a home check. Our dogs are placed on a two week trial. The adoption fee is paid at time of placement and reimbursed if the trial is unsuccessful.
After the trial period is deemed successful, the adoption process is finalised.
