About Mila ~ Tortoiseshell Kitten (On Trial 27/09/20)
Meet little Mila! Our seven week old, chocolate tortoiseshell kitten.
Full disclosure: the DRN volunteer writing this profile has an extreme bias towards tortoiseshell cats.
Mila is a confident, inquisitive, friendly and sassy little lady. She epitomises the tortoiseshell “Tortitude”. Even at such a young age she has a big personality and loads of character.
Tortoiseshell cats are almost exclusively female. Their coat is the result of a fascinating mix of genetics resulting in some hair follicles having the black/brown gene, and some having ginger. Which means their coats are completely random and no two torties are ever the same!
Mila’s mum and two brothers are black, making her the odd one out. If you would like to adopt a pair of kittens, Mila’s brothers Oliver and Henry are also available for adoption.
Mila’s mum, Molly, who is also in foster care, was a stray cat who wandered into the home of a lovely caring family. The family cared for her like their own, keeping her indoors and in an outdoor cat enclosure. But having previously lived outdoors, Molly found a way to escape the outdoor enclosure and returned home pregnant!
The family want Molly and her kittens to go to only the best of homes - so asked DRN to take them in. Mila would suit a variety of households, but would best suit a home with children over 5. If you have an existing cat, it would be better if it was a male (as two females might result in a sassy-ness overload).
Mila is in foster care in Eleebana NSW, she will be ready to go to her new home from 28 September 2020, at 8 weeks old. PLEASE NOTE: Mila is only available for adoption to a home in the Newcastle/Hunter/Central Coast area as she will need to return to one of our vets for desexing at 4 months old
Preferences will be given to applications for Mila and one of her brothers as a pair.
Mila is available for adoption for to an indoor-only home and her adoption fee is $250. If you were to adopt Mila and one of her brothers, the total fee would be $420. The adoption fee covers desexing, microchipping, her first vaccination, as well as flea treatment and worming.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to fill in our online Adoption Questionnaire:
https://tinyurl.com/drnadopt
If there is a phone number listed in the dog's profile then you can also phone for more information.
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption. More details of our Adoption Procedure on our website: https://tinyurl.com/adoptproc
