About Nikki
**PLEASE READ ALL INFORMATION ABOUT NIKKI BEFORE APPLYING**
Nikki is a 12 year old miniature poodle. Nikki came to Forever Friends in early August when her owner‘s circumstances changed. Nikki has been in a foster home since then, where she quickly settled in.
Nikki has Cushings Disease which is caused by overproduction of the hormone cortisol. She will require life-time medication for Cushings and 6 monthly checks at the vet. Her condition is stable with the medication and her symptoms are minimal; she drinks quite a lot, and her coat has thinned a bit, but otherwise she’s like any other older dog – she enjoys gentle exercise, naps, treats, and is great company on the sofa in the evenings.
Nikki is used to a quieter environment but is sociable with other (calm) dogs and is very friendly with new adults/older teens. She likes to be with you at home but is also very calm, and content to snooze when you go out for shorter periods. She isn't used to being left alone all day. She enjoys gentle exercise in the form of slow daily walks . Ideally, in her forever home she will have access to a yard or garden via a doggy door so that she can relax in the sun and go in and out when she wants to. Due to her age she would best be suited to a home without young children and other animals.
This older lady really deserves someone to give her a loving home for the last years of her life.
Medical notes
Nikki has been diagnosed with Cushings disease which will require her to be on medication for the rest of her life as long as regular check ups. We can go through the needs and associated costs with those interested in adopting sweet Nikki.
