About Darla
Darla seems to have been abandoned on a road, and while people saw her dodging traffic, her luck ran out and she was hit by a vehicle. A kind person stopped to pick her up and take her to the vet, who then contacted us. Darla had a bad break in her hind leg, and she was transferred to our specialist vet where she spent many weeks recovering. The decision was made to try and save her leg, instead of amputate, and it took 8 weeks before we knew whether it worked. Happy to say, that Darla has all 4 legs! This allows her more mobility and less pressure on her good legs, however because the bones have been fused, she'll never regain total flexion. It's also possible that arthritis will be more likely to set in during her older years, so this is something that will need to be monitored. She can hop around very happily, although wobbles around like she's had a bit too much to drink when she's trying to stand up and periscope. Because of her disability, she will need a special needs home. This will look like a mature household, with very soft surfaces. Carpet, bedding, soft hay, etc. We want to lessen the pressure on her feet as much as possible, as she will be putting pressure on different points to usual, and we don't want to see her get sore hocks.
Darla, like so many rescues, has shown nothing but gratitude since arriving in our care. She is the sweetest girl, racing over for head rubs, and always pushing her little face into us. She's so happy to be alive! She is the perfect bunny at using her litter tray, and is very neat and clean. She does moult a lot. Darla will be one of our older rescues, we'd place her over 3yrs (although as a rescue, we can never be sure when giving ages).
