About Rosie Melbourne
You would be forgiven for thinking Rosie is a magpie disguised as a dog. With her glossy black and white splashed fur and her tendency to collect items to store in her ‘nest, Rosie is only one beak away from having a true identity crisis.
When she’s not collecting toys and burying them under layers of blankets on her bed, Rosie spends most of the time snoozing the day away or seeking out pats from humans. She’s very relaxed, only experiencing bursts of energy on her two daily walks. The rest of the time she is very low maintenance and takes the concept of ‘chilling’ very seriously.
She does take a bit of time to trust people, but with some patience she opens up to reveal a sensitive heart that will leave a lasting mark on whoever she meets. It is important to take things slowly with Rosie, as she is naturally cautious and alert in new situations. But her time in foster care has shown how quickly she learns to adjust to new situations and we expect her to settle into her new home in no time.
Rosie has a lovely, glossy, black coat with white tipped toes and gentle, inquisitive eyes. She gets along well with other (large) dogs and would like having another companion to live with. She would manage in an only-dog household, but would prefer to live with someone who is often home to keep her company. She’s still learning the rules of dog-playtime but respects boundaries when she knows she’s gotten too excitable. Her one aim in life is to please those around her, and will become quite attached to those who show they care.
Rosie is not cat friendly. No small dog applications please.
Due to the limited time of volunteers, only potential adopters who complete our online application will be considered :

Adoption details
Dogs are pack animals and Greyhounds, in particular, are very familiar with being surrounded by other dogs in their racing kennel environment. For this reason, when left alone without people or other dogs for company, they can be prone to separation anxiety which can manifest in destructive and/or noisy behaviour. Yes, they may "grow out" of it after a few weeks in their new home, but why put the dog through that stress to ultimately live all day alone, while everyone is at work? As a result we do not rehome dogs into households where they are left on their own for more than 4 hours per day, without either people or another dog for company.
During the COVID crisis, not all of our rescued Greyhounds will have the usual socialisation with other dogs so we may advise to use a muzzle in some situations until the dog is fully socialised.

Following your initial application, we conduct a home check. Our dogs are placed on a two week trial. The adoption fee is paid at time of placement and reimbursed if the trial is unsuccessful.
After the trial period is deemed successful, the adoption process is finalised.
