About Andrew & Oakie
My mother Oakie, and I were transferred to Lort Smith from another shelter to better our chances of finding a perfect new home together.
The staff here noticed that Oakie had been intermittently skipping on both of her hind legs. X-rays were performed and the vet advised she would need corrective surgery.
We have both been in foster care for the last four months with our amazing foster carers whilst Oakie recovered from her two surgeries.
Oakie has now been given the all clear from the vet - hoorah!
We both absolutely adore each other and do not cope very well when apart, so we must go to a home together.
Oakie and I will need a quiet but active home and be provided with lots of play and mental enrichment. Oakie is happy with just one walk a day and can be a bit of a couch potato after that, but me on the other hand, I absolutely love going on multiple walks and having playtime, I just have so much energy and can never get enough!
We will not be able to go to a home with young children, as we are both a little anxious. I tend to get a little nippy and I do not want to unintentionally hurt anyone.
We are seeking a patient family that are able to continue working on building our confidence around unknown animals, people, environments, sounds and objects, as we tend to be a little fearful of the outside world.
We both show fear reactive behaviours towards other dogs and some other animals, so will need a family that can be consistent within training and continue to work on desensitisation around other dogs. For this reason, we will not be able to be rehomed with any other animals.
Our most favourite thing to do at the end of a long day, is cuddle up on the couch together with our human companions and fall asleep in their arms.
If you think you would be able to provide us with the home that we desire, please contact the Adoption Hub.
Note: we are currently in foster care so appointments need to be scheduled in advance.
Medical notes
Oakie fully recovered from double patella surgery. Andrew underwent full dental.
