About Zac Melbourne
Zac would be happy if his owner was a full-time dog-patter. This sooky boy lives for cuddles, snuggles, pats and massages. He is the true definition of ‘affectionate’.
He does not discriminate either. Zac is friendly with pretty much everyone he meets. Adults, children, small dogs, big dogs. He’s yet to experience a cat though, which may be his downfall. Zac goes about his life from one chin scratch to the next. Walks are an excellent opportunity for this. Zac adores his walks, requiring two big walks a day to feel fully satisfied, with plenty of time for sniffing along the way. He’ll go out of his way to ensure he greets those he meets along the way.
Around the house, Zac is well trained. He’s very polite with his food, and is conscious of the places that are ‘off-limits’ to him. He’s never had an accident and is generally pretty cruisy when spending time at home. He has mastered a couple of commands, but is still very much learning and growing. Some training well help develop him into a well-rounded pup.
He would be okay as an only dog, provided his owners are home often to spend time with him. Otherwise, he would do well with a canine companion. For most of the day, Zac is happy to sleep or wander around the house to check up on his humans. Sometimes he will wait patiently beside you for pats, or rest his head in your hands while you stroke his head. He will make an excellent best mate for a very lucky owner.
Zac is not cat friendly.

Adoption details
Dogs are pack animals and Greyhounds, in particular, are very familiar with being surrounded by other dogs in their racing kennel environment. For this reason, when left alone without people or other dogs for company, they can be prone to separation anxiety which can manifest in destructive and/or noisy behaviour. Yes, they may "grow out" of it after a few weeks in their new home, but why put the dog through that stress to ultimately live all day alone, while everyone is at work? As a result we do not rehome dogs into households where they are left on their own for more than 4 hours per day, without either people or another dog for company.
During the COVID crisis, not all of our rescued Greyhounds will have the usual socialisation with other dogs so we may advise to use a muzzle in some situations until the dog is fully socialised.
