About Quinn Melbourne
Quinn is like an over-sized puppy. She’s full of joy and spirit and would do well with an owner who wants a close bond with their greyhound.
Because she’s always on the go, Quinn’s favourite time of day is walk time. If she has access to a backyard, she will need at least two 20 minute walks a day. She loves getting fresh air, smelling new things and getting compliments on her fabulous jackets (in winter time of course). Any extra energy can be burned off playing with toys or doing zoomies in the backyard.
Quinn would be very happy as an only dog, provided there are people around to give her attention! She wouldn’t mind living with another greyhound who she can play with, or a slightly more mature dog who can help her grow up. She would prefer to live with a greyhound or other large dog, as she finds small dogs a bit too overwhelming. Quinn doesn’t have much self-control when it comes to food. It just tastes soooo good! Her favourite room is the kitchen. She becomes the fastest greyhound in the world when the fridge door is opened. Over time, she has learned patience and understands the difference between ‘human food’ and her food. But beware, her long nose will sneak up onto the kitchen bench if some tempting treats are left unoccupied! She is showing positive signs of learning, and will likely grow out of this naughty behaviour with some consistent training.
She is toilet-trained and has not shown signs of being destructive if left alone. That being said, she certainly doesn’t like her humans leaving the house and will do her best to squeeze her body out the door each time you leave. Quinn can be slightly possessive when it comes to furniture, but does well with a strict ‘no couch’, ‘no bed’ policy.
You will never be bored with Quinn around, she is a sassy, zany personality who is endlessly loving and affectionate. She’s full of quirks and will always keep you on your toes.
Quinn is not cat friendly. No small dog applications please.
Adoption details
Dogs are pack animals and Greyhounds, in particular, are very familiar with being surrounded by other dogs in their racing kennel environment. For this reason, when left alone without people or other dogs for company, they can be prone to separation anxiety which can manifest in destructive and/or noisy behaviour. Yes, they may "grow out" of it after a few weeks in their new home, but why put the dog through that stress to ultimately live all day alone, while everyone is at work? As a result we do not rehome dogs into households where they are left on their own for more than 4 hours per day, without either people or another dog for company.
During the COVID crisis, not all of our rescued Greyhounds will have the usual socialisation with other dogs so we may advise to use a muzzle in some situations until the dog is fully socialised.
