About Jeanie Melbourne
She might not be blonde or wearing a pink, whimsical outfit, but Jeanie can still make all your wishes come true! According to her foster carers, Jeanie has a magic spark that is hard to forget!
Just like the real ‘Jeanie’, this gorgeous girl has adapted to her new, strange life with ease and is getting used to all the new sights, sounds and smells of life as a pet. After spending time in foster care, she has well and truly come out of her shell and has an enigmatic personality is hard to resist. Of course, this is all part of her clever plan to capture attention because Jeanie LOVES people; cuddling them, walking with them, trying to steal their food – you name it! Her cute (slightly chunky) tail will bash around joyfully anytime she is near people, expectantly awaiting pats.
Jeanie is an angel 99% of the time. Except when she goes on walks her stubborn side comes out. She will happily wait frozen in silence for minutes until her humans realise it’s best to go in the direction she chooses! A bit of extra training will help with this, and regardless, it’s still very cute. Around the house Jeanie has adapted very well. She sleeps through the night, is expertly toilet trained, can handle stairs and has learned that the bed is for humans only (the couch not so much…)
If living in a house with a backyard, Jeanie would do well with two walks a day and then will happily snooze the majority of the time. She might like living as an only dog, but is pretty comfortable being on her own.
Jeanie is not cat friendly.

Adoption details
Dogs are pack animals and Greyhounds, in particular, are very familiar with being surrounded by other dogs in their racing kennel environment. For this reason, when left alone without people or other dogs for company, they can be prone to separation anxiety which can manifest in destructive and/or noisy behaviour. Yes, they may "grow out" of it after a few weeks in their new home, but why put the dog through that stress to ultimately live all day alone, while everyone is at work? As a result we do not rehome dogs into households where they are left on their own for more than 4 hours per day, without either people or another dog for company.
During the COVID crisis, not all of our rescued Greyhounds will have the usual socialisation with other dogs so we may advise to use a muzzle in some situations until the dog is fully socialised.
