About Walter
You will look at Walter's very handsome face and want to apply for him but please consider that he has gone through a lot and needs the right home with an experienced owner otherwise his progress will be undone.
Walter previously lived with an elderly owner and was the solo dog of the house. We believe he had no socialisation with other dogs or humans.
When his elderly owner died the relatives surrendered Walter. Being in a kennel situation with lots of other dogs surrounding him, he totally shut down, fearful of any human touch and interaction. He was extremely fear aggressive with other dogs and did not behave when walked on lead.
Walter went to live with two dedicated foster parents who have put so much time, training and TLC into his progress. They were also helped by SAS team member, Tracey, who has been taking him on daily training walks and as a result Walter now shows great excitement when the lead comes out and also loves the car as it means new daily adventures. He is now non-reactive to joggers, horses or other dogs.
Walter must go to a quiet home where there are no other dogs in the family, no children and no cats. He is very active and needs ongoing socialisation. His new owner must have experience with a previous dog with an emotional history and be prepared to continue his training regime.
Walter is extremely affectionate, he has no separation anxiety and is housetrained in his foster home. Obviously his new home will be a new environment that Walter will need to adapt to however his foster carer can give advice if needed on how to set him up to succeed in his new environment.
Walter must have access inside at all times and be permitted to sleep inside in a warm area of the home of a night time.
If you would like to meet Walter please don't forget to send as much information as possible about your home, lifestyle and experience with a dog like this special fellow.
