About Poppy
Hi, I'm Poppy!
I am a small-medium, 10.5kg mixed breed lady from central QLD who is looking for her forever home. People are always asking my foster mum 'how big I will be when I grow up', they seem to think I am still just a puppy, but to their surprise I am fully grown!
My foster parents and I have done a lot of relationship building exercises in my time here and that has made me feel really comfortable with them so I know this will be important for my future forever family to do too! I absolutely love going for long sniffy walks and jogs and I never pull on the lead - I always keep an eye on my handler as I know they set the pace and I'm happy to match it.
I am both food and play driven so I am really easy to train. I am a smart little cookie who enjoys to eat from puzzle toys, kongs and scatter feeding instead of from a bowl! I am great at fetch and love to bring the ball back to you so you can throw it for me again! Tug is another one of my favourite games to play. I am very high energy so a daily (or twice daily) walk and play time is a must for me!
I am crate trained and sleep in my crate all night without a peep - and I even wait until given the cue to leave my crate in the morning once the door is open. Once I am out in the sunshine, I am a happy girl! I love to lay out in the sun on the grass with a bone or a long lasting chew and can entertain myself there for a few hours as long as I have something to keep me occupied.
I thrive on the companionship of my doggy foster brother and would love for my forever home to have a playful, similar sized canine sibling for me to play with. I love to be inside and outside with the family and am trained to use a doggy door to go out when I need to do my business!
I came into foster care 6 weeks ago as a terrified and anxious dog who was simultaneously scared of and obsessed with human companionship. With the help of my foster parents, my doggy foster brother and some clear boundaries, I have become a much more confident, calmer and happier dog. Although I am still a little bit frightened of new people, loud noises and I do get a bit overexcited and jumpy sometimes - I am ready to go to my new forever home with a family who can continue to help me work through this to help me on my journey to being the best dog I can be.

Special Requirements
**************
Poppy has suffered trauma in her past life and as such she is quite fearful of new people and new things.
She is very intelligent and playful. She will happily entertain herself outside for a time - however she does truly enjoy the companionship of a doggy sibling who can play with her as this has really helped her confidence to grow since coming into foster care.
Once bonded with her humans, Poppy develops separation anxiety quite quickly and it is imperative her future family continues to teach her that being on her own (or with her doggy companion, without people) is a positive experience.
We are looking for a home with the following to ensure Poppy has the most full and successful life possible:
- A playful canine companion who is looking for a similar sized friend.
- A family who will commit to continuing her training to help to further improve her state of mind.
- A family who puts relationship/focus building and boundaries first, cuddles second.
Adoption details
Please do not send an "Enquiry". Please instead follow the below steps:
Step 1: Fill in our application form with as much detail as possible - https://forms.gle/sPnL6QS2ik5A5XUR8
Step 2: If suitable, one of our foster carers will contact you via phone to further discuss the dog you have applied for and assess suitability. The same will also be done for other applicants.
Step 3: A meet and greet will then be organised so that you and the dog can meet.
Step 4: Once the meet and greet has been completed, if our team advises that you may be a suitable candidate you will then be required to submit a detailed written application (a template will be emailed to you) - we will then assess all applications and get back to you with an outcome. We may request a home inspection prior to finalising any application.
Dogs are offered for a trial period in new homes for 21 days before the adoption is confirmed.
No entire dogs will be re-homed under any circumstances.
