About Neila ~ 2yr Blue Heeler ~ On Trial 12/9/20
Are you a Blue Heeler lover? If so you are going to love Neila who is a very special 2 year old stock Blue Heeler. As you can see from her photos she is adorable and has a beautiful temperament that matches her pretty looks. She has soulful brown eyes and a sweet, shy nature.
On top of being gorgeous and gentle, she has a very special quality as she is completely deaf. Her deafness doesn't dampen her joy for life and it makes her even more adorable. Neila is looking for a wonderful family who will fully commit to the sign-language training that deaf dogs require to help with communication.
Neila lives with an older dog whom she loves - unfortunately she is a bit too energetic for his liking. She gains confidence from other dogs and absolutely loves to play. Neila can sometimes miss out on other dogs social cues when they want a break from playing. She needs to be adopted by a family with a calm, tolerant but also playful dog who will become her role model and guide. Neila has been exposed to cats and has been fine with them, so she may be able to be homed with a cat (but we would recommend an introduction). She likes to chase birds though! She's not a fence jumper, she does occasionally dig holes but not excessively.
Neila is quiet and shy when meeting new people - but she is very affectionate once she warms up. Her new family needs to keep her well socialised with walks and outings. She is great with babies in her current home - but if there are children in the family it is best that they are older so that they can be involved in her sign language method of communication. She can sometimes bark, tending to take her cues on this from the other dog in the household.
Neila has already started learning basic sign language - Come, Sit, and Wait. She will need to learn to have good eye contact and to watch her foster family's faces to help communication. She must remain on lead when out as it's too dangerous for her to be off-lead - she can't hear cars and you can't call her back so she will wander off in her own silent world. In her new home she must be allowed inside with her family when they are home so that she can spend time with you as one of her favourite things is attention and love from her people.
Neila can be a bit lazy on walks, often stopping after a short distance. However if you will throw the ball for her she will happily chase it all day!
