About Johnny Melbourne
If we could use one work to sum up Johnny, it would be chilled. This handsome guy isn’t fazed by much and has made his transition into life as a pet incredibly smoothly.
Johnny is pretty comfortable around other dogs, but he would be equally happy without any canine companions. Humans make him the happiest! He’s extremely adaptable and would slot fairly well into most households. His gentle nature means he has perfect manners around the house; he is toilet-trained, responds to his name and hasn’t displayed any pesky destructive behaviour.
Johnny does get a little nervous around new people, particularly men. But it doesn’t take him long to come out of his shell and ask for a pat or two (or three!). You’ll never be too far out of sight with Johnny around. He likes to know where his humans are at all times but will never hassle them and is quite comfortable spending time on his own.
His foster carers have only seen Johnny do ‘zoomies’ once or twice. He’s too elegant and proud for such silly behaviour! Plus it takes too much energy. He would much rather lie on his favourite bed and snooze the day away, only lifting up his head for occasional pats. He is very affectionate, attentive and loves having his neck rubbed. Johnny is very excited to meet his forever family.

Adoption details
Dogs are pack animals and Greyhounds, in particular, are very familiar with being surrounded by other dogs in their racing kennel environment. For this reason, when left alone without people or other dogs for company, they can be prone to separation anxiety which can manifest in destructive and/or noisy behaviour. Yes, they may "grow out" of it after a few weeks in their new home, but why put the dog through that stress to ultimately live all day alone, while everyone is at work? As a result we do not rehome dogs into households where they are left on their own for more than 4 hours per day, without either people or another dog for company.
During the COVID crisis, not all of our rescued Greyhounds will have the usual socialisation with other dogs so we may advise to use a muzzle in some situations until the dog is fully socialised.
