About Bruno ~ 3yr Old Husky x(on trial 9/5/21)
Introducing Bruno, our 3 yr old Husky x Kelpie who is looking for a patient and loving forever home. Our lovely Bruno hasn’t had a good start to life - sadly he has spent most of his life chained up without much socialisation. Since coming into foster care he is learning about life outside the yard and he is certainly making up for lost time! Do you have experience with Arctics ? If so, Bruno may really benefit from your experience.
Bruno has learnt to love a long walk or run whenever he can - in fact he prefers to go out twice a day if you’re up for it ! If you’re a runner then he’s a great reason to up your training to include him as your canine running buddy. After he’s tuckered out he will happily spend the day relaxing either on his bed or near you keeping you company.
Bruno has learnt some lovely basic manners - he is food motivated and will sit for treats and takes them very gently. He loves his food - getting super excited when dinner is ready which results in him jumping in circles, which is a joy to watch. He is not possessive of food and will sit and wait for his bowl to be placed down.
Due to his late start in training Bruno needs a family who will commit to his ongoing training needs - to solidifying what he is currently learning and expanding on it. At times he can be quite independent and strong-willed, he is also quite strong on the lead (a front clipping harness or halti will assist with this) so will need a family who is confident with walking (or running!) him. He gets very excited when he sees another dog on a walk - but he is selective of the dogs he chooses to approach, usually avoiding males or larger dogs. His new family will need to understand that not all dogs want to socialise with other dogs.
Also due to Bruno’s poor socialisation he is very wary meeting people he does not know. However, he craves human companionship as once he gets to know you he is an incredibly affectionate boy. This gorgeous boy will become your best friend - asking for your attention and cuddles at every opportunity!
We are looking for a home with no young kids for Bruno as he hasn’t been exposed to them since being in our care. He may be OK in a home with older teenagers (16 plus years) as long as they are used to big dogs and are confident to help with his training. Bruno’s new home should have no other pets so that his ongoing training can be the focus - definitely no cats or pocket pets please!
Bruno is fine in the yard while his foster mum goes to work but as soon as she is home he comes inside for companionship and to snuggle. All he wishes is to be integrated into his family’s day to day life. He is toilet trained and is happy to be left inside or outside when you’re at work. He’ll love a medium sized grassy backyard with plenty of room to roam - due to his mix of husky and Kelpie he will require secure 6ft fencing.
We’re looking for a family that will take their time to gain Bruno’s trust and be patient while building upon the training he is getting. His new family will need to commit to several meet and greets over time to assist Bruno to get to know and trust them. An older couple or family with Arctic breed experience is what will best suit this special boy.
If you feel that you can give this wonderful boy a forever loving home please contact Amanda on drn.amanda@hotmail.com or fill in an adoption questionnaire here https://tinyurl.com/drnadopt.
Bruno is located near Hamilton. He is desexed and up to date with vaccinations, flea and worming. Bruno's adoption fee is $400.
