About Porky
Please read entire advertisement his adoption fee includes 2 x one on one sessions with our trainers.
Meet Porky. This energetic ball of love enjoys zooming around the yard, getting your attention so that he can hug and lean into you for lots of pats. He is currently boarded with his trainer and has come from strength to strength, so we are looking for a family that can work with our trainer during the trial period to ensure success of transition.
Porky, as he is affectionately known, is very boisterous and a little mouthy in his play. We therefore advise that he is not suitable for young children.
He loves to strike a pose and is quite intune to where you are once he has identified that you are his person. He is very food motivated and will sit for treats. He is eager to please you and he has great potential to be an amazing mate. He loves to play, have fun and be told that hes the most beautiful boy in the world.
Like some bulldogs he can have selective hearing and pretend that he can't hear you. His recall training does need some work and although his training has shown he is capable he will require someone who will not let him forget his manners. It is recommended that he does not attend off leash areas as he could get distracted and separate from you. He is also very strong and is more of a bigger medium dog.
He is not cat friendly and homes with cats or pocket pets are not recommended. As for dogs, he is receiving lots of support and positive dog interactions at the trainers. However, if you are not prepared or supportive of Porky he can be reactive if rushed or not reliant on you. He requires continual training and support with socialising to develop social skills. Currently, he needs to be the ONLY dog whilst his owners work further on his social skills.
This charming loveable Porky has the cutest nose and light eyes. Due to living in Australia we would need a family that welcomes him into the home and is very on top of sun safety.
Porky has never been toilet trained prior to coming into care so this is currently a work in progress but he is comfortable outside, on car rides and rarely bark or whines. Porky is currently being crate trained and sleeps in the crate inside of a night and is a quiet boy.
Training a frenchie can be tough work. They lose focus and interest quickly. They love praise and feeling that they are loved and a part of the family, yelling and punishments will cause the frenchie to lose interest in you and not engage in training.
Toilet training can be a tough process and may take up to six months or more. Patience patience patience is needed. It's super important that he be toilet trained so that he can spend summer in doors in cooler conditions so his breathing doesn't become laboured.
Please also note that french bulldogs cannot swim and need a lot of supervision near pools or other bodies of water.
Although a sought after breed and a charming young dog, he is not for the faint hearted. Not only do they have a range of health issues they can be very stubborn
We are looking for an experienced family that can continue with his training and ongoing socialisation.
Please note frenchie cannot do long walks and may struggle to breathe when it's hot. 15 minutes of exercise at a time is recommended.
areas he needs more support:
2. Toilet training
3. Basic obedience/ongoing dog socialisation: during the 4 week trial it is expected that the new owner will work with our trainer one on one with Porky. Once this is confirmed and completed, change of ownership will occur.
We will not be accepting applicants that:
1. Have children, cats or other dogs
2. Are not financially stable enough to take on/maintain (highly expensive breed with possible health conditions)
3. Feed low quality food: this breed is known to have weight, breathing/respiratory issues as well as skin issues. Therefore, good quality food is a must.
Medical notes
All vet work is up to date.
However, he has very sensitive skin and may require allergy medication daily.
A high quality diet is encouraged to maintain his amazing teeth and skin.
His Health will need to be monitored closely throughout his life as he could develop well known french bulldog issues.

Adoption details
*WARNING: we do not engage in a first in best dressed capacity. Instead we fit the dog to each person/family. For that, we need you to fit the criteria and answer our questionnaire well yes/no answers will be disregarded. If you do not follow the application instructions below, your application will be disregarded.*
Please read his advertisement and engage in proper discussions with your family to establish if you are all happy to adopt Porky.
Please research the breed, training options and diet and explain how you will meet his needs. Then email us for an application form. Please provide AS MUCH detail as possible to increase your chances of a successful application.
Your application should include details about who lives at your home, both humans and animals and what their daily schedules and living arrangements are like. It should include details about your previous dogs and a thorough break down of the house rules you will have for this pet as well as agreement to engage in the required training commitments with our trainer (4 week trial period in which you agree to engage in a minimum of 2 x one on one sessions with our trainers, at your expense).
Along with the completed application, send us photos of your yard, gates, fences and any shelter the dog may have. This is very important due to his very pink and sensitive skin.

If your application seems promising you will be contacted for a telephone interview. Should this be successful you will be invited to a meet and greet. Should the meet and greet end favourably, you may pay the adoption fee, sign the paperwork and take the pet on a four-week trial during which time you will be asked to provide regular updates in particular around his training.
During this trial period the pet remains the property of Firefly Animal Rescue and adoption will only be finalised following a successful trial and evidence of ongoing training.
Only successful applicants will be contacted.
