About Koori
this the cutest little dude you've ever seen, or what?!
Koori might just be the definition of 'pocket rocket' and he's looking for a committed, engaged family to help him be the best he can be.
Koori is an interesting mix of breeds - he's got jack Russell, chihuahua and Maltese shih tsu in there! But he's also half kelpie and although he's short and stumpy, it's the traits of his working breed ancestry that come through most strongly.
This boy is SMART. Koori needs a family who are 100% committed to keeping him both physically AND mentally enriched, each and every day.
He will require at least an hour of walking every day and would do best in an active, outdoorsy home - trips to the dog park/beach/nature walks/camping trips - any or all of these would be perfect.
Koori also needs someone who plans to take him to training and he will ideally find a family that's keen to do something like agility training. Enrichment feeders and the like would be great too.
Koori won't suit a family where he will be left home alone all day long, as he will get bored and might turn his attention to other things like digging holes.
Koori is very social with other dogs and loves to play with them. It's important that he keeps up his socialisation, so regular interactions with other dogs would be great. He could potentially live with another dog, however his new family needs to understand that you can't simply leave him to hang out with another dog and consider that his exercise and enrichment!
At only 10 months old, Koori has his whole life ahead of him and we want it to be amazing. It has gotten off to a bit of a rocky start as he was in a home that unfortunately just couldn't meet his needs so we want things to turn around from here!
Koori can be very unsure when he meets new people. He may give you a little growl, so his new family need to be understanding and patient, willing to go in armed with treats and happy to sit and let Koori come to you in his own time.
He also still has the puppyish traits of jumping up, mouthing and being inappropriate with personal space.
We're ideally seeking experienced dog people, or a family who are committed to learning alongside their new companion.
He will respond best to positive reinforcement/force-free training.
Koori will not suit a home with small children. Teenagers may be okay.
He has not lived with a cat before and is likely to chase, though if you have the ability to separate him from your cat and introduce them slowly, that may be an option.
We know this is a long and highly specific profile. We feel that we have taken Koori into care at just the right time - he was developing problematic behaviours that his previous family couldn't address and he wasn't having his needs met.
We are absolutely committed to finding him only the most suitable home.
If your enquiry, please give as much detail as you can about your home and family, the lifestyle you can offer Koori and the types of training you will undertake.
