About Monty. Melbourne
Monty is a surfer. No, not the type of surfer with salty locks, sun kissed skin and a wetsuit wrapped around their body. A bench surfer.
While being a large greyhound does come with a few extra stares from people who might think he is a small horse, Monty doesn’t mind. Because his super long legs allow him to sneak food off the bench when no one is looking.
So he’s a bit cheeky, but he’s also a very quick learner and will quickly adhere to the rules once he’s tested your boundaries. He’ll definitely sneak on the bed too, if you’re okay with that kind of thing.
In short, Monty is a super lovable black grey who is sure to make you smile every day. Whether you’re brushing your teeth or watering the garden, Monty will be there by your side. He’s got tons of energy so will need regular walks and lots of toys to keep him entertained. A bit of training will also help keep his clever brain entertained and tire him out by the end of the day.
He’s easy going and has settled into life as a pet seamlessly. Although he’s still learning about other dogs and would be quite happy just being in the company of humans. He sticks to them like glue!
Monty is not cat friendly. No small dog applications please.

Adoption details
Dogs are pack animals and Greyhounds, in particular, are very familiar with being surrounded by other dogs in their racing kennel environment. For this reason, when left alone without people or other dogs for company, they can be prone to separation anxiety which can manifest in destructive and/or noisy behaviour. Yes, they may "grow out" of it after a few weeks in their new home, but why put the dog through that stress to ultimately live all day alone, while everyone is at work? As a result we do not rehome dogs into households where they are left on their own for more than 4 hours per day, without either people or another dog for company.
During the COVID crisis, not all of our rescued Greyhounds will have the usual socialisation with other dogs so we may advise to use a muzzle in some situations until the dog is fully socialised.
