About Jenny
Jenny is approximately 2 years old and is a female, chocolate and white Labradoodle. She was very reluctantly surrendered by her heart broken owner who has health problems, and was a very much loved member of her family. Midcoast Dog Rescue has the privilege of finding Jenny her new, loving, permanent home.
Some general information on Labradoodles:- They are intelligent, easy-going and need socialisation from an early age. They require 30-60 minutes exercise per day, they are very active and love to run. They need to be intellectually stimulated because they are so smart and energetic, and if they become bored they can become a destruction machine. They need human interaction and must be included in the family unit. They will reward you will devotion and unconditional love.
Jenny is a companion dog through and through and should live inside the house and not outside in the yard. She is happiest living in the comforts of home. She is house-trained and should have access to outdoors 24 hours a day for toileting and play.
Ideally, Jenny should be walked twice a day for about ½ an hour each time in a secure harness (she already has a top notch harness which suits her needs). She pulls hard when out walking, mainly due to the excitement of getting out and about, but she settles down after a period of time, however, young children would not be able to control her strength. She loves to stop and sniff and explore like every other dog! She must NOT be let off lead outside the yard – under any circumstances – she does NOT come back when called. If she sees a bird, another dog or a person she wants to get to them and will not consider the dangers or obey commands. This behavior can be corrected over time with some guidance and training and patience.
Like all Labradoodles Jenny has a lifespan for some 12-14 years with most of these years ahead of her, so it is important that she is treated as an integral member of the family. She is not suited to being left at home alone for long periods during the day and would definitely love to have another dog in the family to play with.
Jenny, like all Labradoodles, requires regular grooming with brushing once or twice a week as well as ear cleaning and nail clipping when needed. Labradoodles can be prone to ear infections so it is important to check the ears weekly for dirt. A professional groomer would charge approx. $70-$80 for a complete groom, including nails. We recommend clipping every 8-10 weeks (depending on how quickly the coat grows) to keep her coat in good condition and washing when necessary.
She loves to play fetch and run and needs a good-sized backyard in which she can run around and expend some energy. The yard must be secure with good solid, high fencing (colourbond preferred).
Jenny is a medium-sized Labradoodle and weighs 9.8kg. It would be beneficial to her to add an extra 3 or 4 kg to her body weight by ensuring she is fed a good quality dry food such as Royal Canin. Currently she is eating Optimum Grain Free kibble with a supplement of cooked lean mince and vegetables. Treats should only be given as a reward and not considered as a meal.

.......................
Midcoast Dog Rescue Inc. is trying to expand its foster carer network so that we can help more dogs in need. This is a very rewarding experience and suits a variety of people. Some people, for whatever reason, are unable to make a permanent commitment to a dog, a commitment which can last for up to 15 years. Others use the fostering experience as an interim measure before committing to permanently owning a dog. If you think you could be interested in becoming a foster carer, either on a long-term or a short-term basis, and would like more information please contact Nigel on 6584 4992 or Wendy on 6584 7027.
