About Lenny
Hi Everyone!
My name is Lenny and I am a 15 months old Dalmatian.
I need to get this out first encase you stop reading – I have a few issues that I am currently trying to work on and will continue to need help with - I am lousy at first impressions – I get a little scared and nervous but if you just leave me to come to you when I’m ready – my curiosity usually gets the better of me in 10 – 15 minutes and then I’m ready for cautious pats and chats!
I am also what my foster mums says protective of 'my' home and persons - I am the self-appointed inspector of anyone and anything that comes on to 'my' property. I express it in a growl and a stance - that can scare some people off but I think you need to know i take that part of my job seriously and probably always will.
I have the energy, intelligence and athletic ability of a Dalmatian - My new parents must understand my breed and personality and be willing to successfully guide me through life!
As a young boy, I do need some help but I promise I am worth it (I am very clever). I absolutely love adventures and will make the best exercise and running buddy.
My foster mum says I am a wonderful loving dog still with some cheeky puppy tendencies.
I love love love my humans when i have settled (it will take me a few days so please be patient with me), and if you have children especially over 8 I would be soooo happy to hang with them and play with them and watch over them.
The kids here at my foster home love to play with me and I have been learning a game called fetch and tug of war - it's funny the humans grunt and groan and get all red in the face with me but I hang on - I'm getting good!!
I love a big walk or a run or even a play in the morning and evening that normally takes care of my high energy and then I am happy to laze in the sun occasionally checking on my people and property and if I can see out the fence - I'll check happening in the street. I will bark at dogs and people going past but it’s generally just an alert and then I'm back to my observation post.
Oh yeah my foster mum said I had to add this bit in as well cause it was real important - I am very cautious with new people, especially men, but will eventually warm up , I really do want to socialize with other dogs but I am still learning how to and will benefit from slow introductions and play with my family who is experienced in dealing with a dog who is unsure of others.
In regard to this 'lead thing' the humans have been on when i go for a walk I am learning how to walk on a lead, and i'm not going to lie I get very excited and will pull but that's just cause I am following my nose and excited to go, go go!
My hear my foster mum and the rescue talking about this thing called separation anxiety - it does sound like me!!! I think i do good in short periods (3 - 4 hours) when my humans go out but I really really want someone who is home more often than not to adopt me - someone who can let me come in and out of the house at my leisure (cause don't forget i like a good sun snooze)
I am fully house trained but I do need an enclosed yard with secure high fencing.
My foster mum and I were talking about this bit and it's pretty important to me whilst I want to play and socialise with other dogs, and cause I’m still not really great at it I think I would like to go to a home where there is no other dogs - this way you can help me work on my confidence, trust and anxiety.
I would very much like my human / family to give me plenty of love and attention and who are able to continue to work with me on these manners.
Once I am comfortable and settled I show my true self – my foster mum says I’m gorgeous and very loving!
If you are okay with giving me that chance after my first impression (and it’s improving all the time as I meet new people) then please click on the adoption application link!
