About Poppy
Due to the number of enquiries we have had we are unable to accept new applications after midday Monday 6th of July.
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE.
Please ensure that you meet our required criteria before applying to adopt Poppy.
NAME: Poppy
BEFORE SAFE ESPERANCE: Came to SAFE Esperance with her sister Leta and brother Harry after being surrendered.
BREED: Poppy is a mixed breed. Her litter exhibits the features and characteristics of a Beagle and terrier.
Beagle - a beagle is a small scent hound used for hunting hares. They are active, hardy, affectionate and also stubborn, so training requires patience. They love to use their nose, are inquisitive, determined and food focused. Being pack dogs they generally get along well with other animals and humans. They need plenty of exercise - at least an hour a day - and can be destructive if unexercised or bored. Beagles can climb so require good high fencing to contain them.
Terrier - terriers are generally lively, independent and clever. They are trainable but have a mind of their own and if bored can exhibit destructive behaviours such as digging and chewing. Terriers are devoted to their people and love being with them, so cannot be left for long periods.
We can therefore glean from the above that Poppy will require training and socialising from the start, she will be energetic and require good regular exercise with lots of play. She will need human companionship in a home where she is not left for long periods.
ASSETS: Friendly, affectionate, obedient, sensitive, submissive and very playful! She's a very sweet soul who's super sensitive and loving.
FAVOURITE THINGS: She's a typical puppy and is on a constant voyage of discovery at the moment. She loves all people she meets and is still very much learning the basics of command and lead training. Housetraining is going brilliantly. She loves to play ball and is starting to learn to bring it back. She also loves tug of war and chasey with her siblings.
OTHER ANIMALS: She loves everyone she meets at the moment, typical puppy! She hasn't been introduced to cats as yet, so any introductions would need to be gentle.
DISLIKES: Nothing, She's a great all-rounder!
OUTSTANDING FEATURES: She has long lanky legs which are super cute. She stares at you when she's cuddling with you on the couch.
HOME ESSENTIALS:
* A home where someone is home for a good part of the day on a permanent basis (not just through Covid 19) . No full-time workers please.
* Poppy needs an owner who will put in the time to train and socialize her (puppy school is a must). 2 good walks each day will be essential to keep her happy. She will also need a lot of mental stimulation as she's a clever cookie who learns new things easily and could well be destructive if she's bored.
* Poppy needs a good sized yard with a lawn and lots of things for her to sniff, and space to run around to burn off her playful energy. She would go well with another young dog but would be equally happy as an only dog in the right home. We will not home her with young children (under 8 years) as she will need a quiet, gentle home due to her sensitive nature
* Poppy needs to be allowed to be inside or out as she chooses, and to be included as part of the family.
* Poppy will require good high fencing to keep her safe - she could have a tendency to climb or dig if bored.
If Poppy sounds like the perfect girl for you, please send an enquiry and we'll be in touch soon.
