About Harry
Due to the number of enquiries we have had we are unable to accept new applications after midday Monday 6th of July.
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE.
Please ensure that you meet our required criteria before applying to adopt Harry.
NAME: Harry
BEFORE SAFE ESPERANCE: Came to SAFE Esperance with his sisters Poppy and Leta after being surrendered.
BREED: Harry is a mixed breed. His litter exhibits the features and characteristics of a Beagle and terrier.
Beagle - a beagle is a small scent hound used for hunting hare. They are active, hardy, affectionate and also stubborn so training requires patience. They love to use their nose, are inquisitive, determined and food focused. Being pack dogs they generally get along well with other animals and humans. They need plenty of exercise - at least an hour a day - and can be destructive if unexercised or bored. Beagles can climb so require good high fencing to contain them.
Terrier - terriers are generally lively, independent and clever. They are trainable but have a mind of their own and if bored can exhibit destructive behaviours such as digging and chewing. Terriers are devoted to their people and love being with them so cannot be left for long periods.
We can therefore glean from the above that Harry will require training and socialising from the start, he will be energetic and require good regular exercise with lots of play. He will need human companionship in a home where he is not left for long periods.
ASSETS: Friendly, outgoing, obedient, active, sweet and extremely playful. He's a lovely friendly boy but can be a bit dominant with his siblings.
FAVOURITE THINGS: He's a typical puppy and is on a constant voyage of discovery at the moment. He loves all people he meets, and is still very much learning the basics of command and lead training. Housetraining is going brilliantly. He loves to play tug of war and chasey with his siblings. He also enjoys destroying his bed and toys wherever possible!
OTHER ANIMALS: He loves everyone he meets at the moment, typical puppy! He hasn't been introduced to cats as yet, so any introductions would need to be gentle.
DISLIKES: Nothing, he's a great all-rounder!
OUTSTANDING FEATURES: He has the cutest short legs which make him walk with a swagger.
HOME ESSENTIALS:
* Stability: A home where someone is home for a good part of the day on a permanent basis (not just through Covid 19) . No full-time workers please.
* Training: Harry needs an owner who will put in the time to train and socialize him (puppy school is a must). 2 good walks each day are essential to keep him happy. He will also need a lot of mental stimulation as he's a clever cookie who learns new things easily and could well be destructive if he's bored.
* Space: Harry needs a good sized yard with a lawn and lots of things for him to sniff, and space to run around to burn off his playful energy. He would go well with another young dog (preferably female) but would be equally happy as an only dog in the right home. We will not home him with young children (under 8 years) due to his tendency to be dominant.
* Love: Harry needs to be allowed to be inside or out as he chooses, and to be included as part of the family.
* Experience: Harry can be a little dominant with other puppies, so his owner will need to have the experience to gently correct this behaviour.
* Safety: Harry will require good high fencing to keep him safe - he could have a tendency to climb or dig if bored.
If Harry sounds like the boy for you, please send an enquiry and we'll be in touch soon.
