About Roman. Melbourne
Roman is a particularly special boy who requires the PERFECT home.
The noisy world is a scary place for Roman and he is looking for forever humans who have the time, patience, kindness and confidence to accommodate his needs and help him live comfortably with his general anxiety disorder. This will likely require medication for his anxiety while he settles into his new home.
Roman is a small, muscly boy, with the cutest little ear hats you’ll ever see. He is very food driven and can be quite boisterous in the kitchen – in fact, he’s even earnt the nickname Ramsay as a result. This ability to use reward based training has allowed him to make some great strides in his short time in foster care.
Roman is a very good communicator and has a different whine for each request. If his bed isn’t in the right spot, he’ll let you know! If he’s hungry, you’ll hear about it. Roman is also very playful and loves a zoomie! He would love a backyard where he can zoom to his heart’s content!
Roman has a lot of stressors, including auditory and visual stimuli. Places like busy shopping strips are not a good place for him, as there are too many unpredictable and sudden movements and noises. Luckily, he is great in the car and enjoys being taken to quiet places, like nature reserves, for his walks.
Roman has not had much exposure to other breeds, but appears to enjoy the company of other greyhounds.
No cat or small dog applications please.
Roman will need a quiet neighbourhood, a country property would be ideal.

Medical notes
Roman does have a general anxiety order and is on long-term medication which is helping him cope and adjust to external stimuli like loud noises and busy places.
Adoption details
Dogs are pack animals and Greyhounds, in particular, are very familiar with being surrounded by other dogs in their racing kennel environment. For this reason, when left alone without people or other dogs for company, they can be prone to separation anxiety which can manifest in destructive and/or noisy behaviour. Yes, they may "grow out" of it after a few weeks in their new home, but why put the dog through that stress to ultimately live all day alone, while everyone is at work? As a result we do not rehome dogs into households where they are left on their own for more than 4 hours per day, without either people or another dog for company.
During the COVID crisis, not all of our rescued Greyhounds will have the usual socialisation with other dogs so we may advise to use a muzzle in some situations until the dog is fully socialised.

Following your initial application, we conduct a home check. Our dogs are placed on a two week trial. The adoption fee is paid at time of placement and reimbursed if the trial is unsuccessful.
