About Merkel
Described by his foster carers as one of the most affectionate dogs ever, Merkel certainly has left his mark on their hearts. This boy loves nothing more than receiving pats and cuddles and loves all the attention he gets while on walks.
Merkel came to us with in a bit of a sorry state. He was matted and had oozing lumps. Upon investigations it has been found some of the lumps are hemangiosarcomas. These were removed but unfortunately the likelihood that these will return is quite high. Due to this he needs a particular type of home.
We are looking for a retirement style home where Merkel can lap up all of the attention he craves. He will need to be an inside dog as this type of lumps can be linked to sun exposure. He will also need to wear a tshirt when out and about. A family committed to the cost of potential future surgeries/ investigations to remove reoccurring lumps is a necessity, it's likely they'll need to be removed again in 12 months. His life expectancy is unknown so his new family must be prepared for the fact he may not have another 8 years left, but at this stage he is bright and full of life !
Merkel is the perfect housemate. He is toilet trained and loves nothing more than a good snuggle on the couch. He doesn’t bark much and he sleeps in his bed throughout the night.
Merkel loves his walkies and enjoys a good run at the park. He is dog social but we are unsure how he would go living with another dog at home as he has been an only dog while in care. He is moderately active and as long as he gets a good walk and some toy play time at home every day he is fine to snooze the rest of the day away. We are looking for a family who are home more often than not as he is happy to stay at home for 2-3 hours by himself but gets a bit upset after this.
His basic training is coming along nicely and he walks well on leash. He is extremely food motivated which makes training a breeze. He is great with kids however we suggest due to his medical needs a family with older or no kids as after potential surgeries he will need down time and quiet. He needs regular grooming so a family committed to these ongoing costs is essential.
Although his time with us is unknown Merkel is just the sweetest love bug who deserves to have his life filled with all the attention and cuddles he wants. If you think you are the perfect match for our affectionate boy, head on over to our fetching dogs website to fill in an adoption enquiry form.
Medical notes
Merkel has lumps known as hemangiosarcomas. These will return and may need to be removed in another year or so. They can turn serious at a later date and may spread within the body, giving him a shorter life span. For now, these are manageable.

Don't see a breed attached to one of our dogs? That's because we don't breed label dogs of unknown genetic history. We can't guess at breeds but that's okay, because we can tell you about the dog's individual personality, character, and behaviour.
