Hey everyone, my name is Benny!
I was found hurt on a road outside of town. I looked as if I had come off a ute. Nobody responded to my lost and found ads, and I had no microchip. I had a rope for a 'collar' and was thin and terrified. I was really scared when my owner abandoned me. Thankfully, the lady who found me surrendered me to OTC to get some help. The OTC vet thinks I am a cattle x arab, probably born around July 2019. I am almost fully grown at 26kg and I have a cut half-length tail.
Thankfully OTC got my full vet work done, and I have made an amazing recovery. I had deep wounds on my face, had bitten my cheek and ripped my toe. But with some bandages, medication and lots of hugs and kisses, I was back on my feet in no time. I will never look back and never be thrown away or abandoned again! My carers have taught me how to sit, stay, wait, 'dig in' (for dinner), inside & bed. Off-leash, I am a good boy and will come when called (most of the time!) especially if you have food with you. I love other dogs and am very playful and happy. In the car I like to be harnessed and buckled in so I know I have to sit still and quietly watch out the window, even though car rides are not my favourite thing.
At home, I like to come inside and be a part of the family. My house training is going well, and I am a really sweet boy who just wants to be with you. I am currently used to carers who are home a lot, but if my new family works, I will adjust easily as long as I have something to keep me busy. I am still figuring out what toys I like. So far my favourite thing is to play with other dogs, or my humans- but I do love Kongs. I would love to get out for an adventure 3-4 times a week, to run sniff and roll! I would like to be behind a 5ft fence+. I show no sign of being a houdini, but am used to that height of fence- and better safe than sorry! I am a quiet dog who very rarely barks.
Sometimes if you are frustrated with me I will cower and duck as if you are going to hit me. Please don't worry, with time I will learn you aren't going to. I can still learn boundaries just fine, it just takes me time to realise you aren't going to harm me. I sit well in the bath, and am patient at the vet even if I am scared. I truly am a loving, gentle and very special boy. I have met a cat on-leash at the vet and was friendly with it, so if my new owner is experienced and can introduce me to cats SLOWLY, I may be able to live with a cat. Otherwise, I would prefer no kitties.
So what do you think? Could you make up for the pain in my past? Can you give me a beautiful life?
Adoption details
PLEASE NOTE - DUE TO COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS WE ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTING ADOPTION APPLICATIONS FROM OUTSIDE Queensland. All dogs must be collected by the adopting families, from Toowoomba or Brisbane. Transport cannot be arranged by Off The Chain K9 Rescue Qld. We appreciate your understanding.
Before applying, please consider and finalise the following:
- Real estate approval
- Fence requirements
- Outside shelter areas
- Other resident pets fully vaccinated and preferably desexed
- The rescue pet's dietary requirements eg large breed vs medium breed, age
Once you are ready to adopt, please complete the OTC Adoption Application questionnaire below. This is not a contract or agreement of any kind, just an expression of interest in the animal. We will not authorise meets unless this has been completed and only approved applicants may meet the animal. Once you are approved and have submitted all relevant information, we will organise for you to meet the pet at your home, or in a public place. If you have other pets they must be at the meet. You may be required to travel to the pet; we infrequently have admins available to drive extensive distance and it also says a lot if someone is able yet unwilling to come to the animal they have applied for. If for example you cannot drive, feel free to talk with us about possibility of travel to you.
At the meet if you and the pet get along you have the option of either taking the pet on the spot (in exchange for signed contract and the full adoption fee paid upfront) or placing the pet on hold for up to 2 days with a $100 non-refundable holding deposit. This deposit is then taken off the original adoption fee should you proceed with the adoption. Should you place a hold, we will not proceed other applicants until you have removed your hold or adopted the animal.
*PLEASE NOTE we do not hold pets without a non-refundable holding deposit of $100. If you are unwilling to put a deposit on the pet, we will continue to advertise and speak with other potential adopters, so you may miss out. We have had to make the deposit is non refundable to avoid time-wasters. The $100 holding deposit is then subtracted from the outstanding adoption fee, which is to be paid at collection of the pet. Eg if full adoption fee is $450, and you place a $100 holding fee on the animal- the day you collect the pet you will sign an adoption contract and pay the remaining $350 fee of which $75 is non-refundable.
All animals are adopted out with vaccinations up to date; if for example you are adopting a young animal it may not have had a full protocol yet due to age- so any vaccinations due from date of adoption are the ethical and financial responsibility of the adopter. During the trial period, should the pet become ill, you must notify OTC, and present it to the OTC-approved vet clinic we direct you to in your area. OTC will cover any treatment needed at our authorised clinics.
So. Ready to roll? Then fill out the attached short form, and we will be in contact to successful applicants asap. Feel free to follow us up via Facebook page inbox. (www.facebook.com/offthechaink9)
